I just saw a snip of a commercial for King 5 news in Seattle. They are doing a story about Coach bullying customers and demanding their money. I won't be here at 5 when it comes on, but maybe someone else can see it or find the article online

a former employee wants to sell her purses on ebay but Coach says she is selling fakes - Too bad they didn't put any pictures of her bags up with the article. I'm curious what she is selling. I could see someone selling fakes claiming to be a former employee as their credentials. Too bad the news reporting never gives ALL the information. I imagine that if it is true she is selling fakes we will never hear that part of the story.

yeah, I'm jaded on local news reporting. All they want is to get a headline stuck in your head but they never tell....The Rest Of The Story.

Where's Paul when you need him???

I agree, they should have posted pics. I kind of wonder about if she really was selling fakes and mentioned she was a former employee to make unsuspecting buyers feel ok. I find it hard to believe that Coach pulled that over her selling legitimate authentic Coach bags.

I'm sure there's much much more to this story - and I'm wondering if the $300 is the amount of employee discount she rec'd on the bags on question. You'll notice how no one showed WHAT the $300 was for?

Hmmm. Interesting. It seems like if she is actually a former Coach employee and is reselling purses she purchased using her employee discount, Coach has an even stronger case. All Coach employees must sign an agreement promising not to compete with Coach by reselling; this includes selling used bags AFTER you no longer work for the company. But articles like this like to come after the "big corporation," and conveniently leave out the fact that Coach has legitimate grounds for such a lawsuit.

I can understand them not wanting employees to sell Coach, but even after you no longer work for them- never? So that person is either stuck with what they bought or they can give it away? That seems a little harsh in a way. Maybe they should do a time limit like a year after employment ends. I don't know. Maybe this person stocked up and never used the bags so she could be a reseller when she quit or whatever.

I think it is funny that the news doesn't accurately report that people sell on eBay all of the time without threats from Coach. There are resellers who sell like 10 of the same exact item, but nobody does anything to them. Coach is a VERO member on eBay last I knew so they could have eBay do something, but they don't seem to. Also, I still see lots of resellers buying things in bulk even with their supposed rule in the outlet.

Oh and Macy's seems to not have any limits at all BTW. I keep hearing stories of resellers buying everything in sight during their clearance, etc- like now during the one day sale because it is 25% off MSRP plus additional 30% off plus if you have a Macy's star rewards coupon for another 20% off. That means resellers can buy Coach clearance at Macy's for better than it is at the outlet now

Yes, I wonder why Coach would pick this particular woman to sue; as Paula says, there are hundreds of eBay resellers to target. But also: eBay seller names tend to be pseudonyms. So how would Coach know who Kim was amidst hundreds of sellers posting bags on eBay? Did she use her own name as her seller id? Or is eBay colluding with Coach to help them hunt down former employees who resell??

yeah, i don't think you're allowed to..but obviously coach cannot stop it because they don't have eyes everywhere..but if you are going to do it why do it on ebay where its more obvious? why not just sell it to a friend? or allow a consignment store to sell for you then?

but the interesting thing is

if you are a former employee and you have enough handbags to sell to catch the attention of coach (because really, selling a few would not make a beep on anyones radar even if fake)

she must have had a bunch

and i don't think they're fake really..i think that thats the only way coach can stop her. because what would you do to stop a former employee from selling your products? i'm curious more then anything..if i'm wrong someone pls tell me what coach can sue that individual under.

or she could really be selling fakes and just happen to have worked for coach.

i wonder how many she got for sale..how long she's worked there..you usually are limited if you work there..unless you buy deletes..and if you buy deletes with intention to resell..*flinger slits throat*

I brought this topic up to my SAs at the outlet tonight and they were interested in listening, but didn't really comment so I assume they aren't even allowed to talk about it. One just said her brother had called her to tell her about the story and the others were just standing around listening really. I read online comments that are basically implying Coach is some big bad retailer that won't allow people to sell their own stuff, but I really do believe that the woman only shared half of the story (as in most cases in general). It is too bad that Coach and/or their attorneys never replied to the news station when called for comments.
