In private auctions, the identities of bidders are hidden and you can't see the links to the auctions in the seller's feedback.

For example, here is an example of a private auction. In the bidders list, it says "private listing - bidders' identities protected":
http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=170437925148

And in the seller's feedback you are unable to view the links to the auctions, instead it says "Private":
http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...sspagename=VIP:feedback&ftab=FeedbackAsSeller

Since ebay now obscures bidders' IDs anyway, there really isn't a reason for sellers to use private auctions. Whenever I see sellers using private auctions, I wonder just what it is they're trying to hide. Private auctions make it easier to shill bidding to occur and you can't check the seller's previous sales in feedback.

Thanks, Starry!
