Nah, that's called a "quicklink". Google quicklink and you'll see. I assume the little tube part turns/screws open? Sometimes the tube is simply held closed by spring tension, but usually they screw, which is much more secure. (I only know this because quicklinks are ubiquitous on parrot toys ... safe, and very hard for birds to open.)

The single one appears to be metal, but are the string of four leather? Part leather? Do you know?
