What will happen to 1941 leather if it rains or snows? I've caught up in rain with my Coach pebble leather tote and grain leather Mercer. It seems fine. I'm wondering whether 1941 pebble leather and glovetanned leather will leave water marks.

I adore Coach's glovetanned leather. I use my 1941 glovetanned crossbody pouch as an SLG in my other bags most of the time. As you can imagine, it's developed quite a few scratches, but I LOVE the look. It's my dream to own a MTO glovetanned Rogue, but I worry the service will be discontinued before I manage to save up, haha.

I've always thought of leather capable of scratches to be high quality. Leather is a skin after all, and marked up skin is a natural process, just like in us!

I have heard before somewhere that things are meant to be used; use your things, and don't use people. I totally understand why people are saddened when their bag develops imperfections. For me, I think I've managed to handle marks since I've changed my perspective on shopping. I want to buy things that I will like for a long time, not giving into trends, what other people are doing, and fast fashion. It's like I want to grow old with my bags. I wouldn't fault myself for developing scars and wrinkles from my life - it's natural and a sign that I'm living my life! - so I aim to view my bags in the same way.

That being said, I did feel a little sad when my bag arrived already with a scratch (I like scratches to develop from my own use LOL). I used Apple conditioner on it but it didn't look different. What conditioner do you guys like to use on your glovetanned leathers?
Blackrock Leather n Rich is best at temporarily hiding scratches. Beware, it sometimes also temporarily darkens. It also helps protect the leather. I've used it on light colored bags to protect against color transfer.

What are you all using to condition your glovetanned leather?? I was going to buy some coach leather moisturizer from the website but noted in the description it says not to use on glovetanned.

Wow! Very interesting! Even the SA's tell you to use the moisturizer! I've used it on my glove tanned items and haven't had any issues per se. I recently moisturized a goldenrod wallet and noticed a slight yellow on the paper towel I was using so maybe it takes color off? I'm going to call Coach in the morning and ask them so what do you use if not their moisturizer??? I have a lot of glovetanned products and bought several bottles recently. You'd think they would sell one specifically for glovetanned leather then!

Yes, there are watermarks. I had my melon tea rose rogue 25 with me in the rain and there were purple spots exactly where the raindrops landed/stayed. After it dried, the marks disappeared but I don't know how often it will 'heal' itself.

So I went to my local coach store yesterday to ask. And she said not to use the moisturizer on them because it can lift the color... All she said was if I get anything on it to use a baby wipe carefully but no suggestions about what I should use as a conditioner.

I do a test spot first in an inconspicuous spot just in case, but have never had any major changes. It may shift the shade a tiny bit, but I figure I'd rather the slight change all over than risk something happening where there's a spot I simply can't get out that looks stranger. Just my preference though.

Umm that's super weird that their own product will do that.

Anyways, I've used Bick4 on Coach and other brands with no issues.

I love both smooth glovetanned leather and also pebbled leather. I think both or in fact every single type of leather gives off a different look and are suited for different purpose.

In my opinion, pebble leather gives off a more casual and relax feel. Pebble leather usually does not have much of a sheen on them and depending on the size of the bag, it will slouch after using them for awhile. Definitely a top pick if I am looking to get a casual, fuss-free bag.

Smooth glovetanned leather on the other hand, screams ‘luxury’ to me. Perfect leather choice for your more formal occasions. Either for a work bag or an evening clutch.

They are so smooth and buttery to the touch, has a slight sheen that gives off a classy appeal and they are usually made of the highest quality of leather. I also love how they age over time.

I personally don’t mind the light scuffs and veining that are more visible on smooth glovetanned leather as I find that it adds more character to the bag and it makes it more unique and one of a kind as no other bag can have the same marking like yours would. IMG_1515640913.057300.jpg

I guess I'll join the anal retentive party and say I don't like scratches on my bags and baby them as best I can. I won't buy a new bag with a blatant mark on it. If anything, I'd rather be the one to put it there! I have some of both - smooth glove tanned and pebbled - and like them both. I agree with Suzanne that I hate polished pebbled or saffiano. It doesn't feel like leather to me. I love my Nomads and Rogues equally. I also have a few Edie 42 bags with the larger pebbling with suede sides and love those, too. Heck....I love all my bags....

I like the scratched, banged up look on some bags but they are usually other peoples' bags. I can't seem to let my bags get there. I should look to buy one already "seasoned".
I am the same way. Yesterday I noticed a slight scratch on my dinky on the front flap. I moisturized it like crazy and now it is barely visible.

I use their moisturizer on almost everything. Mine is moisturizer only though. The one that cleans and moisturizes can strip things a bit.

Just to keep bags moisturized I like Apple brand. I don't apply it with a cloth, sponge or paper towel though, I use my hands only. I moisturize the bag like I would myself and there's no color transfer from the bag to my hands. I don't use too much of the conditioner so it all soaks in and no wiping needed.
