Clothes vs Bags

I had an accident and damaged my foot. I can only wear flat , secure shoes, I tend to wear crocs a lot, I hear the moaning, but I can not wear heels, at all. Some nice flat boots for dressier times. At least there are a lot of great boots. Clothes I buy on sale, nice, but not designer. Just mid price, good clothes. Bags, ah, that's the thing, Dooney, LV, kate spade, Brahmin, vintage gucci, many others, yeah, all with crocs, and yes sometimes I'm embarrased, but mostly not. Amused, indifferent, whatever. I have sold all my great shoes to buy bags.

this thread was created for a girl like me. Thanks OP!

My love for bags has caused me to realize that I have lots of lovely clothes and shoes that I hardly get to use because I'm a mom of 3 and too busy to go out as often as I would like. Now, my bags, however, I can use them all the time and thus are a good buy, all the time!

:D

ITA. I was at a clothing party the other day and although the clothes were absolutely gorgeous, I couldn't bring myself to spend $75 on one top. That would've been $75 taken away from my bag fund. My friend says that I can spend $300+ on a bag but not $75 on a top? It's all relative to what we each enjoy and are most happy and satisfied with. I don't get the same high & enjoyment out of clothes that I do for bags. I do enjoy wearing nice clothes but I wait and scope out deep discount sales for them.

I like this... I think it sums it up for me too. And I also don't spend much on shoes because most of the prettiest shoes kill me. Bags never do. :graucho:

Good point on the shoes. Lol

I get what you're saying. I think it's fine to invest in classic handbags that will last 10+ than to buy multiple cheaply made items that will last maybe a year or a few washes.

Just like I think it's fine to buy a few pairs of True Religion jeans as opposed to 5+ pairs of lower quality jeans. I mean no offense to anyone.

I am a bargain hunter with clothes and shoes in ways I could never be with bags. I'm happy if my clothes in particular last a season or two... except for jeans. I do splurge on good jeans. :D

I can spend lots of money for a cashmere sweater, cardigan or shawl or a nice pair of classic jimmy choo but other than these I can't see myself spending money for clothes as much as I spend for handbags.

I have always spent a lot of money on my handbags and accessories. You can throw on jeans and a t- shirt, and with a great looking bag, and some cool jewelry you look totally put together. I have some handbags that I have had for 10 yrs that are classic bags, that look just as good today as they did when I first bought them. I cannot say the same about any shoes or clothes....

I have the exact same problems with clothes and shoes!!! With handbags, you can always find one that fits you just right.

Definitely bags over clothes. But only because of how much of a pain it can be to take care of clothes and after purchase costs for dry cleaning... I am notorious for putting DVF dresses into the washing machine because it can be annoying to dry clean a dress after one wear (and because I'm a little OCD every piece of clothing has to be washed/dry-cleaned after one wear... Sweat and oils and stuff). I will spend money on quality coats or blazers though.
