Lately, I tend to buy bags more than clothes. I will spend $800 for a pre-loved LV Tivoli or over $200 for a D&B Dillen II Satchel, but won't spend $69 for a pair of Gap khakis. Does anyone else have this problem?

I used to always shop for things on SALE. But it depends. If I saw nice clothes that are "IN" in this season. Why not buy it? I'm the kind of person, who recycles my fashion.

I go back and forth on this issue. I also am willing to spend more on a bag than most any piece of clothing (except an amazing coat), but at the same time, I do invest in clothing because, while a great bag can really pull together a look, you can't carry that bag 24/7! When I'm at work or at a friend's house, the bag is stashed away so the clothing still has to carry the look, so I wouldn't want to focus just on bags.

i agree, i think the difference though mainly for me is the after care and cost that's involved in buying expensive clothes, where as a bag, at least my bags don't require babying or careful maintenance.

I have a solid, stable collection of clothing that goes back to the late 80s, but is still current. I'm one to buy high-quality pieces that will last the test of time.

But, the passion is definitely handbags. Plus, with handbags one never has to worry about if they will or won't fit from decade to decade. If one picks wisely, a handbag can go a long way.

I have a distinct style, I love fashion, but I don't spend big bucks on clothing like I will on bags. It's a combination of: the bag will be worn more often, it is less likely to get spilled on, stained or stretched, etc. And when I look at high end clothing that is just as expensive as bags it's hard to justify something that can't be tied into my wardrobe more often than, say, a dress.

My wardrobe is plain and classic. Khakis and solid tops for work. Gap, a little Old Navy, J Jill, Lucky Brand to name a few. Same with shoes. Basic brown, tan or black. I also shop consignment. Consignment is great for bags, too. Got a lot of LV from consignment stores.

I'm willing to spend about 2000 on a handbag, but I wouldn't spend that much on a single piece of clothing.

I buy clothes more often than bags, but splurge on handbags only one or twice a year.
When you think about it, you really only need a few handbags but more variety in clothing.

Depends...if you work outside of the house and depending on the work environment, this is probably true. I have more work clothes (corporate environment) than I do for casual, but I think I may have more bags than I do clothing!;)

I never seem to find any clothes I like. I'm petite. Nothing fits, even petite sizes. I have the same problem with shoes. My feet are narrow and I walk out of most shoes.
I dress very plain and classic for work. Khakis and solid color tops.

I'm also petite and blessed (or cursed) with ample "girls," but I'm not overweight so finding tops or dresses that don't make me look pregnant or really show off the girls is a challenge. And petite pants? Oh please! There is nothing petite about inseams of 32 inches! My inseam is 28. Do I have to constantly hem pants? I shop at Delia's for pants, which has inseams as short as 26 but their selections really are for teens so my choice there is limited. I finally updated my wardrobe after 3 years and it was painful and tiresome. And shoes...yes, I walk out of them, too.

But shopping for handbags! Ah...what a joy and normally, I shop for bags and spend more than I do on clothing.

I have this constant fear of spending a significant amount of money on clothing, then gaining weight and the clothes not fitting. I do try to by a mixture of high (on sale) clothes and low, but I have NEVER spent as much as I would on a handbag. The handbags will fit me no matter my size!

Me too. I lost over 20 lbs. between 2006 and 2009. Now I fluctuate up and down 5 lbs.

Someone wrote on this forum - they buy bags because they always have the right fit. :-)

For me they will always be the perfect size and fit. Bags over clothes!

I bought a new bag and won't carry her until I have lost my first 10 pounds. I won't even buy new clothes until I reach my goal weight. :/)

I don't know... I usually break down and buy clothes. My husband usually buys me handbags, I have only bought myself one since he is usually the one who buys them for me. I think about buying myself a bag, but then I think, "Well, I will just ask for this bag as my gift for my birthday or Christmas," and then I'll hit the mall and buy some tops or jeans, lol! Even though I REALLY love bags, I don't feel like I have to buy them right away. I usually find one I like, lust after it for months, tell my husband I want it, and then wait. :blushing:

But something that is really hard for me to do is break down and buy shoes! Some people think I am crazy and I know it's weird, but ugh. When I have to buy shoes, I always cringe lol.
