Hi, I just read that there are no authenticators here, but I’m worried about this Classic Q Natasha, and hope a more experienced MBMJ collector can comment. The main concerns are that the logo plate on the front flap is way off center, and the crazy lining. The lining is different on my other bags. Is the off center plate a sure sign it’s a fake? I found it in a thrift store a couple of years ago.
Measures approx 14”at widest point, 10” tall, 3.5” deep.
Not an authenticator, but the lining is typical of older Marc by Marc Jacobs bags. The hardware looks the same as two of my MBMJ hobos i have. I am fairly confident in saying this bag is fine[emoji16]

Edit: typing too fast & can't spell lol

Thank you, Storm! I saw the same lining on some ebay listings, but you cant exactly depend on ebay. I have a couple of bags with a different lining.
Is the off center logo plate a quality control issue? Was this typical on earlier bags or of the Natasha?

Do you have a ruler or a tape measure that you could use to check?
I'm not an authenticator but I know that the Natasha and the rest of the Classic Q bags went through a few iterations, from high-end retail versions then eventually to ones for the off-price stores. Along the way they changed the lining at least two times (from a fabric to a nylon-like material) and the hardware (My 2013 Fran from Saks has additional rivets on the handles that were not on more recent versions, for example.)

Hi
I've just got a couple of questions for those in the know.
Does Marc by Marc Jacobs ever use faux leather for 'slouchy' bags?
Is the Marc Jacobs signature black and white lining always cotton or is it sometimes in a polyester?
Is the absence of a Made in label the absolute clincher that it's a fake?

Yes, I've bought an obvious fake and I'm annoyed but before I contact the seller I need solid evidence rather than my gut feeling. I'm too embarrassed to post pics but would be grateful for your thoughts.

Thanks.

Thanks Storm702. As I said, I'm really embarrassed, I took my eye off the ball and it's so obviously a fake. Apart from it not being leather, the obvious issues are the lack of Made in label, the lining which I now realise isn't dirty but is misprinted, and some suspect hardware which I didn't spot on the original listing.

I only buy these old handbags to restore as a hobby, not as a big investment. But it's annoying when they're not right even if I haven't spent much on them.72F8619D-9361-4818-A809-E50C02EF7AAE.png89157BEC-EED6-400C-B604-D034B9E9CBEF.pngFC4A0D26-67B3-4F10-98A7-D2ACB892C32C.png

I also Googled a few phrases and found a few more bags with the same issue.
Sorry for disappearing, I appreciate all the responses! The logo plate is probably 1/4” off center, but to me at least it looks worse. I once went out of my comfort zone and bought four MBMJ bags, all with black and white lining, from a thrift store. When I got them home, I identified one as a fake after a bit of googling. The store had some loophole in its return policy and wouldn’t take it back, so I tossed it. I was rather disheartened and stuck the remaining three on a shelf for two years. The lining of this Natasha is more nylon like and stiff than the other two, and the leather isn’t as soft, so it makes sense that it might be of lesser quality for off-price retail.

What type of material does it feel like? Have you looked in the pockets for the tag? I am trying to see if I can find any more information about this.

Thank you.

It's definitely not leather and there's definitely no Made in tag.

The lining is poor quality - not the nice cotton twill on my other MJ bags The listing said the lining had a dirty mark on it, but the mark is quite uniform so I think it's a printing error.

The spring clasps on the side have sharp slender edges rather than the chunky, rounded clasps on authentic bags.

Also the base doesn't have the four brass studs/feet which similar styles have to protect the leather.

I have a Groovee which is a similar style - it's like night and day in terms of material, finish and quality.

See, that's what makes it so hard! Without seeing & feeling it in person, I would have been fooled too. I tried searching for that style as well, and couldn't find anything! I love Groovees, I've had a few & they're sooo cute!
