Can someone please help me authenticate this? I purchased it while browsing for a new daily wear and tear bag and saw what was described as a "classic Marc Jacobs messenger" on Nordstrom Rack online. Super excited by the color (medium to dark gray) and the size and shape and is my first Marc Jacob's purchase, so I'm not entirely sure what to expect. I'm a Burberry, Dooney & Bourke gal, but I thought I would try this because the shape is perfect and i love the color (large, cross body, deep gray with gold tone hardware).

I received it in the mail today and expected it would be the lower end, Marc by Marc Jacobs line, but have a few questions / concerns after looking around online:

1) the zipper is made by YKK -- is that normal for the Marc by Marc Jacobs line, or this bag?

2) there is a plastic protective coating on the strap -- is that common also?

3) the interior has a bar code and "Made in Vietnam" black sewn in tag (see picture below) the back side of the "made in Vietnam tag" reads "fabrique au Vietnam" rather than "100% cow leather" or similar description

4) the leather is pebbled and very soft to the touch.

5) logo on the front reads Marc Jacobs New York

6) All gold hardware has Marc Jacobs printed on it

7) interior zipper pocked has a black label that has a serial number on it.

8) IT came with a white tag indicating the style and color and size, which is attached by a black string

9) Cost: $184 -- is that too low to be real?

This looks fine so far. I assume there's some image flip going on in the Marc Jacobs label photo where it's backwards? Clearer photos of the made in, model tags, and label would confirm.

YKK is one of the zippers used and yes, there can be plastic on the strap.

Marc by Marc Jacobs no longer exists. What you purchased is a version of the Classic Q Natasha that was released after Marc by Marc Jacobs and Marc Jacobs collection merged into a single line. A few MBMJ styles were briefly carried over to that line using the Marc Jacobs New York nameplates. These styles are no longer made and the nameplate has been discontinued.

The history of Marc Jacobs in terms of the merger of both the Marc by MJ line is super interesting, and i had no idea that Marc just didn't exist anymore --i figure that's why the price on this bag (discontinued) is so much cheaper, in addition to it just being from the lesser Marc Jacobs line.

To respond to your inquiry about clearer images, sorry for the blurry ones taken with PhotoBooth, but attached are some of the clearer ones you requested (Made in, model tag, interior label)

this looks fine to me

i actually haven't seen that leather stamped tag before and emailed MJ customer service about it, out of curiosity. it's not a cause for concern, i'm just wondering if, rather than discontinuing these bags, they're now being made for outlets.

Glad this looks authentic. Please keep us posted on what MJ customer service responds. I think your speculation is likely about producing these bags specifically for outlets. Let’s see what they say ....

Hi everyone!

It's been a while since I've looked for a new (but used) Marc by Marc Jacobs bag, but I've found a VERY good deal on one that I'm picking up tomorrow and would love if someone would be kind enough to authenticate it! It looks good to me, as I've been comparing it to my Mom's Baby Groovee, but of course I'm no expert and would be very grateful for a real authentication. :smile: Also, if someone could identify the name of the colour of this bag, that would also be awesome.
