sorry for bumping this but i bought a betseyville bag yesterday at ross marked down to $50 from $78 and now i'm starting to think it's a fake 
i looked it up on the internet and my bag doesn't look exactly like the styles shown. i collect tokidoki and i'm a big advocate of not supporting fakes so i feel really horrible over this it's the snakin tote with the psychedelic blue, pink and yellow snake print. mine does not have the braided straps as shown and it does not have the stripes coming down from the betseyville logo
i'll post a pic if needed but i'm quite embarrassed haha!

If you purchased the bag at a retailer such as Marshall's or Tj Maxx (surplus retailers), it is quite possible tha you may have purchased a sample bag. Often, bags are made in different styles, then the best are chosen for mass market. As I stated before, I have a sample bag from the anchors way line, it has the same prints as the mass marketed bags, but the style of the bag is ooak. May I ask where you purchased your bag?
oops. sorry. lol. I somehow missed that part. But, Ross is a store similar to Marshall's and TJ Maxx. They buy overstocks etc. Ross would not sell a fake Betsey bag. It is most likely a bag like I was talking about...from a collection, but a sample or alternate design that was not mass produced.
The only way the betsey bag you bought at ross is fake is if someone bought a real one, switched the tags with a fake betsey bag, and returned it. And who in there right mind would go through all that for a bestey johnson bag. Plus, finding a fake would be hard enough on its own. let alone taking the time to buy, switch, return. Most likely, its real.
I need some help. My friend bought a beautiful quality leather studded handbag from TJ Maxx and cost about $100. I loved it so much I wanted one but it was an older style and couldn't find..except on Ebay. So I rec'd the bag and it is the same quality as my friends although a little more worn because it is slightly used but in excellent condition. So I bought another bj bag on ebay and this time I am sooo disappointed. I think it is fake. The quality is not what I have in my other bag, there is a number written on the inside of the pocket inside in black magic marker like a kid a wrote it. The material to me is faux leather although it says leather material made in china. I have tried to explain this to the seller and I'm not sure they get it. What is your take on this ??
^^^ Betsey Johnson has two lines of bags. There is the "Betsey Johnson" line with good quality bags made of leather. And there is the "Betseyville" line which is pleather, plastic, nylon. Those bags are fairly low quality and you see a lot of them in discount and overstock stores. Does the bag in question have a "Betseyville" tag? If you want to post a picture or ebay link maybe someone can tell you if it's a style from the last few years.
"bigpursesue"- I can agree with what you are saying to some extent. There are two lines, the Betseyville and Betsey Johnson lines. However, the Betseyville bags are not all low quality materials. Betseyville does make some crappy bags (nylon, pleather, plastic etc.), but they also make some very nice bags that are entirely leather or sometimes canvas with leather.
But, to answer "bagofchips" question, it sounds like the bag you received may be a Betseyville sample bag. Sometimes sample bags end up being great quality and ooak ...others are samples and ooak, but were not mass produced due to obvious crappiness. The numbers written inside are what makes me believe they are samples. The bags (including samples) are produced outside of the US, which accounts for the handwriting. One of the bags I have still had the sample card in it when I purchased it, and the writing on it was child-like. But I still have to stick with my original statement and say that I have NEVER known Betsey Johnson bags to be counterfeited. Counterfeiters tend to stick to the higher, more well known name brands (LV, Coach, Dooney, Dior, etc).

I had no idea. I was especially unaware of the sample bags.No problem. It seems that there are a lot of Betsey samples floating around out there. I myself own two of them, and saw another few unique ones at the store over the last couple years. A lot of people find Betseyville and occasionally Betsey Johnson bags at places like TJ Maxx and Marshalls, but rarely will you find sample bags there. From what I know, the samples typically end up at places like Gabriel Brothers and Rugged Warehouse (off topic, but I have also found ooak sample Juicy Couture there).

Hi, I am looking for an expert on Betsey Johnson(Betseyville)purses and handbags. I have recently purchased a Betseyville(not betsey Johnson)handbag at a retail store called Ross. But, my concern is that the handbag is not real. This is hard to believe becaus it was purchased at a retail store. The name of this handbag(as shown on the recipt) BETSEY LOVE MY GEM. I love Betseyville bags,and unfortunately have never heard of this bag before.
Hi. This is pretty much the same question that a few others have asked here. Ross is basically the same store as TJ MAXX and Marshall's. The bags that are sold at those stores are typically from the Betseyville line. They are usually not all leather (if any at all) and sometimes lower quality than the Betsey Johnson line bags. The bags from these stores are NOT fake. They are typically overstocks and sometimes (if you are lucky) sample bags. If the bag had a tag with a specific style name, then it is not a sample bag.
