Cleaning Plisse scarves

The only experience I have is sending to Paris for dry cleaning and repleating. As another poster wrote, Hermes does this all the time and they have a box on a requisition form to check off for plisse. I would be afraid to bring a plisse to my dry cleaner even though they handle Hermes scarves with the rolled hems all the time. Tie Crafters in NYC may also clean plisses- Hermes uses them in the US.

Thank you toujours*chic:flowers:
I rang my local Hermes here in the UK and they said they send to Bond Street in London who deal with the plisse cleaning - as per Bienchen's note above.

For the record, the Hermes Plisse box lid contains the following advice:-

"To clean your Hermes pleated scarves, we advise you to have them dry-cleaned as washing would cause irreparable damage to the pleats. Please remember that printed silk can be damaged by rain."

I know H recommends dry cleaning on all their scarves, plisse or flat. I just hate the feeling of dry-cleaned silk. It gets a waxy coating that I cannot stand -- even when I use the most expensive dry cleaners.

doreenjoy, have you used an environmentally safe, green dry cleaner? My scarves come back exactly the way they went in ... only clean!

I have! There is a new one across the street from my office. They do a lovely job, I just don't like the feel of dry cleaned silk. Just an idiosyncracy of mine.

As far as I can find out from the UK side, you can either send back to Paris for a clean + re-pleat, or you can just have them drycleaned. I saw somebody in Selfridges a couple of weeks ago collecting some dry cleaned scarves - a twill in the usual envelope and the plissee was over a coathanger with tissue paper. From where I was standing it looked good. Cost sould be around £10 for dry clean + £35 for repleat.

Lol Sarastro perhaps we were shopping at Selfridges on the same day. I recently got my one and only plissé dry cleaned via H at Selfridges. My local drycleaner didn't know how to do it and was going to tie a rubber band around the scarf to clean it. Rather than risking it I took it back to H.

Yes the plissé came back with hanger and tissue paper. They can put it in a box if you request for it. The cost is approximately £10. Same charge for both plissé and twill. Worthwhile if you think there is a chance that your drycleaner might ruin the plissé.

Thank you Coloursnsilk- The dry clean charge for the plisse was £10? Wow that is good value! Was yours re-pleated as well?

My plissé was only dry cleaned. Some of the edges did feel slightly stiffer from the wax I think. But my scarf feels clean.

Although the charge for cleaning was £10. There is always temptation awaiting at H boutique. Last time I went, I ended up leaving with cleaned scarves and a new scarf to add to the collection. A bit dangerous.

Hermes should come with a health warning for wallets and credit cards LOL!:graucho:

As the title says, anyone has drycleaned their plisse before? Im worried that it will lose the fold or at least not as tightly fold anymore when it has been dry cleaned... Thanks

The plisse must be sent to Paris for proper cleaning- they will clean the scarf and then put it through the plisse machine to bring back the pleats. Used to be $60USD for this service. Please contact your boutique for complete details. I would not send it to your own dry cleaners if you want to preserve the look of the plisse. Also, I am not sure Hermes would work with a scarf that has been cleaned locally (ie., redo the pleats).

I'm in the US and I didn't want any of the local dry cleaners to kill the pleats. I dropped it off at the local H store and they sent it to Tiecrafters in NYC to dry clean. It takes about 2-3 weeks to get it back. Or you can contact Tiecrafters directly and see how much they charge to send it back.
