I realized the discoloration after pressing, thought I didn't rinse well enough so I washed the whole scarf. Didn't fix anything, damage done.

I guess the only thing you can do now if you want to wear it and not have the discolouration show is to fold it into the bias, but it does kind of limit your options. Sorry this happened to you, but it is a lesson for the rest of us I guess.

Spot-cleaned a corner of my favorite Legende Kuna Peuple de Panama with the Laundress Delicate Wash and it discolored my scarf! I used it once before with a white scarf and it came out fine, until I tried it on this saturated-colored scarf. Ruined my scarf, can't describe how mad I am right now... I never wanted my scarf to be "washed" like my jeans!

Oh dear, I am so sorry about your scarf! Thank you for sharing your experience! Sounds like the safest is to send mine to H for dry cleaning.

I am so sorry to hear this, chestnutty!!! But you can still wear her rolled up and twisted like a necklace, that way one one can see the damaged area and you will still be able to enjoy her!!! hugs!!!

For plisse lovers, a sad news to report. The cleaning cost at H has gone up from 60usd to 80usd. I was surprised. I sent in 5 of them, so that's 400usd before tax. :nogood: ouch!!! I almost can buy a new one with that money! sigh..the only downside of my beloved plisses...

cvw1004, xiangxiang0731, and hermesdaisuki: thank you guys for your condolences. I will research if there's a way for even out the color loss, but I have a feeling the more I do the worse will happen. Guess what, I'm just gonna turn the scarf into my to-go, workhorse scarf then.
The Laundress Delicate Wash was returned back to where I bought already. Never anymore. I used to wash my scarves with sulfate-free shampoo or dish soap and all the time they came out fine, until I tried to use something specialized for silk. Oh well...

Oh chestnutty that's awful I'm really so sorry that this happened to you and thanks for warning the rest of us. Definitely the scarf has life left in it I agree, rolling it up to wear will hide the unsightly parts. Or perhaps turn it into craftwork e.g cushion covers?

how do you all clean twillies (that were on handles of bags)? mine are starting to look at bit dirty.

I guess it would depend on the type of dirt and how disposable the twillies are to you. Grease ie handcream, I would send for dry cleaning. Then again if you are not too bothered, and bearing in mind you use them to handle wrap, a warmish hand wash with colour catcher should be ok. If you have a pair, I would wash them together so that if something goes wrong, it happens to both so they still match.

I hand washed my twilly before and do not recommend it. It came out clean but both layers of the silk do not lay nicely crisp like new. If you press, they are too flat and lifeless at the hem (not plump and crisp anymore), if you don't press, the the two layers look puffy (like a coat pocket). It all depends if you are to use them exclusively as bag handle wrap or not, if you do then I guess the hem issue wouldn't matter anyway.
Hope that make sense and someone more experienced with washing twillys can chime in.

Hi cvw1004, I read your earlier post. Do you really think spot-cleaning is not a good idea since it may leave watermarks etc? If so I would wear it for another while and send it for full cleaning.

Spot cleaning can leave ugly marks on the silk, I wouldn't do it. I've already washed 3 of my Hermes scarves in cold water and they came out OK. I use shout to remove stains. Apart of being fresh and clean, they look almost the same as before. If you decide to send your scarf for dry cleaning, you may want to ask to be careful with the hems. I have a scarf with flatten hems because of dry cleaning. Good luck! :smile1:

Thank for the caution! I only send my scarves to my Hermes boutique for dry cleaning. Their trusted cleaners have done wonders for my scarves in the past. I don't use other dry cleaners for H scarves. I am way too paranoid.

Hi XX, the cleaners I recommended should be fine, they hold a Royal Warrant for Prince Charles. Just tell them exactly what needs doing - no hem pressing etc

I had to send out a red H scarf because of a stain to my local dry cleaners--dumb that I didn't think of looking for this thread first! The stain did come out, but the hems are now flat. Is there anything one can do to get the hems to look rolled again?

If I bring my scarf to my H boutique so it can be sent to their designated cleaners, do you think they can make the hems plump again? (maybe this is wishful thinking...)

It's just that it's one of the first scarves that my DH gave to me, so would love to have it looking fresh again. It's the last time I send a beloved H-scarf to my cleaners! TIA
