Dear community,

I bought the medium sized clash in white gold and am afraid that it might be a bit too loose. In pic 1 you see it at the base of the finger and in pic 2 you see how much it moves down the finger once I walk around.

It doesn’t move past my knuckles (I tried!) but since the ring is very heavy it always moves around because it’s not super snug. I’m not sure if that’s just how it is or if it’s actually too loose. It felt comfortable in store.

What are your thoughts/experiences?

That’s basically how mine fits.I have big knuckles and when hot or swollen I do have to give it some push to get it on/off, but it goes spin amd slide a bit on my finger. That bothered me at first but I know my fingers won’t be getting thinner so I didn’t size down, amd am now completely used to it and find it comfortable.

Mine fits the same way. Any smaller and it would not go past my knuckle. I’m also used to the fit and it fits snuggly enough that it won’t slip off unintentionally.

I am sitting here wearing my brand new Clash ring on the same finger, experiencing exactly what you’re describing. I bought mine today, and in the store, it seemed perfect. In fact, I couldn’t really get one size down over my knuckle, so I opted for the larger of the two sizes. But now that I’m home, and trying it on, it flops around whenever I move my hand. I’m pretty sure that it would slip off if I were to wash my hands. So I emailed my SA and he suggested trying it again in the morning, and if need be, I will go back and exchange it tomorrow. Interestingly, the Cartier website says that if you are between two ring sizes, they advise going with the larger size. But I also don’t want to worry about losing it.

Love your ring! Congrats! I have the WG small Clash ring in size 50.

I would say the Clash ring has to be the most comfortable ring I’ve worn aside for the Chanel Ultra Rings which are kind of like watch links so the ring is flexible & flops onto itself when set down on a flat surface. I’ve had the Love wedding bands and the tank française ring which have flat edges and definitely less comfortable on a day to day basis!

At first, when I got my small JUC ring, I was trying the Clash and Écrou. Écrou was too awkward feeling. I had originally tried the 51 in the Clash and almost ordered it from Europe (am in US). At the boutique, as I was inspecting the beauty of the ring, I realized the ring felt a tad loose so I switched to size 50.

On my left middle finger, it fits perfectly. It stays straight meaning it’s not crooked or tilting to one side. I don’t tend to take off my rings for the most part but the clash definitely takes the most effort to do so. Like my Love wedding bands, I could easily take them off in 5 seconds with ease by my nightstand but the Clash definitely requires a bit more time and effort.

So maybe I perhaps should have gone with the 51 or even 52 because I bought the clash in the summer of ‘22 so the heat/ air might have caused some swelling.

In the pictures below, in the 1st one, I pushed the clash all the way to the bottom of my middle finger as much as I can. Right now, in the 2nd pic, it can move up to the 1st knuckle (is it a knuckle or idk) but it definitely won’t go flying off. If I’m using soap, hand sanitizer, and lotion (back when Covid was still bad), yes it can slip further up but won’t go flying still.

In these pics here, I can put the clash on both my ring fingers but it’s definitely much looser.

It also doesn’t stay straight and tends to tilt a bit - it also feels awkward for me between my pinky and middle fingers IMO.

I would say if I’m like having a very engaging convo with lots of hand gestures, it would fly out of my ring fingers for sure! From the last 2 pics above of the clash on my ring finger, the ring does stop at my first knuckle but would not be confident at it staying there if my hands were mildly sweaty or soapy/ lotion.

Congrats again! Hope this helps.

Side note, how fun would it be if Cartier took like a 1/4 of a Clash bangle and strung it up like with the trinity cord bracelet so that the clash part is on the exterior front of your wrist? Thoughts??

Your responses are all very helpful, thank you so much!!

I am surprised to read that the fit of the ring is a bit peculiar compared to other rings. I have a size 60 ring which is more snug than the 59 Clash ring. But then again the clash is heavier and more flexible.

Long story short I will stop by the store today and try a size smaller. With the current size my brain always tells me that I am about to lose it because the movement of it on my finger is so noticeable due to the weight. It drives me a bit crazy tbh

Have you gone to your boutique today?

I did a few hours ago kand tried on a smaller size which absolutely did NOT work. Well it kinda did I suppose but it took a while to get it past my knuckle and it was a bit too snug. It’s still very cold here in northern Germany so I assume that wearing the smaller size in summer would be extremely uncomfortable. I left the store keeping the ring I bought yesterday.

It seems to me that you need to size the ring down and accept some degree of sliding if you have joints that are thicker than the rest of the finger. It is probably more noticeable since the ring is relatively chunky in the medium size.

And truth to be told i am at my absolute thinnest at the moment and that will probably not be the case the older I get

I am doing the same thing…going to stop by the store today to try on the smaller size again. Let us know how it goes!

Exactly this. Like I said, mine was the same and it felt very strange. Now it's one of the most comfortable rings I own, and I find the weight of it comforting. You get used to it.

What did you end up doing?

I kept my ring because the smaller one felt too snug and in summer it probably would have killed off my finger.
I did the same! Went to the store and tried on the smaller size, and while it fit perfectly, there was no room for error should my knuckles get larger when I get older. My SA said that he would pick the larger size if it were him making the decision.
