So I don’t mean to be morbid, but I can’t help but wonder whether the person passed away? Why would so much be sold at one time? Incredible collection but I couldnt help but feel kinda sad…like it’s the end of an era/lifetime. I can imagine the social events these pieces must have been worn. Or perhaps I’m overthinking?

You may be overthinking, even though there is chance the owner may have passed away.
Sometimes people may want to clean-out their closets. I can see the items listed in this auction were purchased mostly 5 - 20/30+ years ago, but not really from recent years. So, I would think the owner could just want to do a closest clean-out, and only keep the favorite accessories/items that were purchased in more recent years.

Or maybe this is part of liquidating assets in a divorce?

I think also even the wealthiest amongst us can reach a stage in life when they feel they dont need so much 'stuff'.
She probably felt she wasn't getting the use or the joy out of the items any more to warrant keeping them and henceforth its time to move them onto someone who will enjoy and use them and liquidise some assets into the bargain.

I noticed very few exotics were up for sale but I guess someone with such a great collection must have many bags in exotic too.
So maybe she kept the exotics and sold the rest.
I found it refreshing not to see lots of exotics!
I actually get bored with them..They just say 'expensive' to me rather than rare or 'different.
Also bear in mind when selling (or buying) at auction or from any reseller exotics require a Cites so its actually an easier hassle free sale or purchase when exotics are not involved.

So…..I purchased a bag from this sale and it is beautiful, but it has the most god awful cigarette smoke smell. Horrible. Does anyone have this experience? And any suggestions how to get it out? My bag is Fauve barenia and toile. Help!
Hi California Dreaming. OMG did they not disclose that? I don't think that smell could ever totally come out. I live in Canada and contacted a consignment shop here about a Vintage Kelly Danse but they disclosed that it came from a lady who smoked and it smelled. I didn't purchase it.
