Christie's Auction for Hermes handbag - licensed shipper?

That seems a lot (without me knowing what you bought and the cost incl VAT). Italy is lovely so if you have the time, a spontaneous vacation might be on the horizon for you?
I know right? I was prepared for pricey but not that high!
Without spoiling the reveal (to come later!) - it's a limited edition B so that explains part of the quote

Have you gotten your bag yet? I also bought a bag in this sale, received and accepted a shipping quote from "Francesca" at "Shipping Team" but haven't heard anything more. I need to get this bag before I leave for my summer holidays in a few weeks!
I also got my quote from Francesca but I've decided to go pick up my bag in-person this August! My friend and I are currently planning a trip to Lake Como after I pick up my bag

I too won a bag from this auction and just got a quote for shipping. It was 20% of the cost of the item.:wtf: I called Christie's in Milan this morning and asked if they would hold if for me to pick it up in person later this summer and they said it would not be a problem. The cost of shipping plus insurance, etc is more than a round trip ticket for me from Chicago. Ciao Milano!!

I'm also going to be flying out of Chicago! :flowers: I also love the fact that the Milan location doesn't charge for storage & admin fees after 30 days like NYC/London/HK. Have fun in Milan!

Congrats to all of you! I was tempted too, but got confused on the prices and chickened out… still slightly regretting….
Honestly I was confused too, since this was my first auction. I had my eyes set on another bag and woke up early for its last hour of bidding, but didn't end up winning that one so I went back to sleep thinking my wallet was safe this time around. Two hours later, I woke up to an email that I won the bid for another lot I placed a bid on a few days ago. It was very unexpected, since I felt sure someone else would've put in another bid after me in between the day I placed the bid & the last day.

I’ve had that happen to me too, just not for a bag! Can’t wait to see what you got, have a fab time in Milan

Sadly, I can't swing a trip to Milan time-wise, so I'm going to have to eat the shipping costs. I just hope I get it reasonably soon because for those prices it should be very speedy shipping!

I purchased a bag at Sotheby's. I too had to pay around £1,000 for shipping and insurance. And unfortunately it wasn't even such a fast process. I had to wait for almost a month. Just them packing it took more than a week. Tbh I would not buy from an auction again unless it's a super bargain or a local auction house. Adding the shipping and insurance coat plus tax and duties to an auction premium... Not sure if it's worth it.

Agree, there are a lot of extra fees that are added on top of the hammer price that sometimes we forget to account for. I think it's worth it for rare collectibles, but probably not for regular quota/non quota bags.
