Thanks for the opinion ! I did do research, that's why I decide to buy it.
I understand seller need to pay ebay and PayPal fees, and she really need to make profit.
Just over 100% profit is really out of my expectation.

Thanks again ladies for the great opinions!!

I don't think she made 100% profit. After the fees, I bet she made about $4 or $5.

I've been on eBay for 12+ years. After paying eBay, Paypal and shipping (if free shipping is offered) fees, the profit surmounts to a meager amount. If I remember correctly, last year eBay began charging sellers on shipping too. One must also factor in costs associated with shipping like envelopes (unless Priority Mail is used), bubble wrap, packaging tape, etc.. Many small businesses and individual sellers on eBay struggle because of the inflated fee structure. Corporate gains and games!

Threadflip charges 20% commission from the total purchase plus an additional $7.00 for pre-paid shipping via USPS flat rate boxes (small and medium ones). They also profit off of the shipping. I am unsure of the seller fees charged by other mediums.

I reckon that savvy sellers have decoded the formula of succeeding in making a pretty penny off of online sales. Wish I was one of them...but alas I am not. :rain:

Sellers must make every effort to ensure that their buyers are satisfied with their purchase. Buyers can be turned off by discounted price tags even if they are aware that the seller needs to make at least minimal profit. Candid descriptions in the listing, interaction with customers, and packaging (which may include removal of discounted price tags) also matters. When I sell an item (although I enjoy the buying experience better :smile1:), I always include a handwritten note of gratitude to the buyer. I always appreciated thank you notes when I purchased an item.

I bought a snowflake fob in eBay, received today.
The price I won is 21.5 plus S/H. After opened the package, I found a price tag on it.
The retail price is 38, but there is also a handwritten price 9.99.

This is incredible, I felt upset when I saw it.
I wrote message to the seller, told her it's not right.
I gently gave her advice that she at least should remove the tag.
And she replied that she's glad I like the fob.
She'll remove the tag next time.

Just wanna ask, if you were me, what would you do?
And is anything I could do to report to eBay?

To add to what the others posted, I just want to say that an item is worth what a willing buyer wants to pay.

I recall that several years ago, there was a small-ish denim Coach hobo with zebra striped lining that was selling on ebay for prices approaching $1K!! Although I'd never pay that amount, there were buyers ready, willing and able who wanted the bag at whatever price. (IIRC, suggested retail might have been $298-$348, but don't quote me.)

That's the beauty of a free market. Sellers can buy items cheap and resell them for whatever price they want.

As the seller though, I would have removed any indication of what my purchase price was.

I doubt her profit was as much as even $5.

Buyers don't realize the time, money and effort that do into being a seller.

In addition to the price marked on the item, the buyer has other expenses:

  • At $4/gallon, it's not cheap to go out shopping. Chances are she traveled to several stores/malls/outlets and if there are many miles between them, the expense of gas and wear and tear on the car adds up
  • Over and above the retail price is sales tax
  • Her shopping time is worth money
  • Time and effort to photograph, edit, upload, prepare listings
  • Ebay listing fees - charged each time an item is relisted also
  • Ebay FVF fee
  • Paypal fees
  • Overhead costs for packaging, ink, shipping labels, post office trips, etc.

Those who think selling is easy should try it!

Don't forget the Coach Dragon keychain! I would say most sellers made far more than a 100% profit. lol

....Hmm. Somehow I cannot believe that there were only ever 8 of this bag made as the seller indicates in their listing. Funny, but I swear this style bag went to the outlet, IIRC? I wonder how they decided to pick "8" as their number, why not 10 or 20, or 1!!!

ETA- OK, now that I look more closely at it, it is a slightly different pattern than the Acorn Criss-Cross Zoe (which is what I thought it was initially) but i don't see anywhere on/below the creed that indicates it is a limited edition and says "X of 8"

I don't think there ever was a Coach bag that they only made 8. What if someone is gullible enough to pay what she is asking?

On a related note, at the Prada store, they told me they only made 2 of each color of the ostrich bag. When I went back 6 months later and asked if they had any more in red, they conveniently had another one at another store.

Her pattern looks identical to mine which is/was 12738. (I believe mine is a smaller Zoe.) I don't think her bag is limited edition.

Mine came from the outlet also but it was a delete, not MFF.

I feel bad for someone that gullible! It doesn't even look to be in good condition! It's filthy!
