It might be hard to imagine now, but at one point in time, Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam was cast for the role of Christian Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey. Although Hunnam eventually dropped out of the role and Jamie Dornan was cast instead, he recently told Entertainment Weekly that it wasn’t an easy decision for him to make.

“It was very, very painful for me, that whole process, just very unpleasant. I felt like I let myself down. I let those people down on Fifty Shades that I’d grown to really love and respect. It’s just a really unpleasant period of time for me.”
Hunnam’s reason for dropping out of the role was largely due to his busy schedule at the time.
“For the first time in my life, had more work than I had time to do it,” he stated. “It’s very hard to be disciplined in that situation and understand what is going to be required to all of that work to the best of your ability and have yourself surrounded by people.”
Meanwhile, in an interview with Us Weekly, Hunnam revealed that playing Grey was something he really wished he could have done.
“I wouldn’t have signed up in the first place if I didn’t want to do it. It was a really, really difficult time in my life. I had already been attached to Crimson Peak for about 14 months, which I said, I was going to do with Guillermo [del Toro].”
Hunnam also explained how he felt a connection with director Sam Taylor-Johnson, but his schedule was so packed that he eventually had a nervous breakdown prior to backing out.
“I was going to finish [filming] Sons at like 11 p.m. Friday night, get on the plane Saturday morning to Vancouver for Fifty, missing the whole first week of rehearsal and start shooting Monday morning. And I was going to shoot that film, wrap that on the Wednesday and the following Monday I was going to start shooting Crimson Peak in Toronto. I just had like… frankly, something of a nervous breakdown.”
Hunnam went on to state that he didn’t want to disappoint fans of Fifty Shades of Grey with an inadequate portrayal of Grey.
“To fail on such a grand scale — because Fifty’s going to be massive, it’s going to be huge. I really didn’t want to fail on such a grand scale, and I just couldn’t transition from Jax Teller to Christian Grey in 48 hours. It’s painful because I loved the character and I wanted to do it. I’m also a man of my word.”
Charlie Hunnam can be seen in Crimson Peak this coming October and in Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur in the summer of 2016.

When it came out, Guillermo del Toro’s mechs versus monsters spectacle Pacific Rim was big and brash and a lot of fun. It was, however, lacking somewhat in the story and characterization departments. Now that Pacific Rim 2 is gearing up to begin production later this year, star Charlie Hunnam hopes that the sequel will correct these issues instead of focusing on razzle dazzle.

Talking to EW about his upcoming role in Guy Richie’s medieval epic King Arthur, the conversation veered towards the pitfalls of working on a big, special effects-heavy film like Pacific Rim. The Sons of Anarchy veteran said:
I think world creation and monster creation and all of that stuff is exciting as a secondary element of storytelling. When it becomes more important than storytelling, I get very nervous, and you sort of lose me a little bit. Although we tried very hard on Pacific Rim to marry those two elements, I do feel like ultimately it got weighed heavier on the side of spectacle than storytelling
Instead of being able to really dig into characters, motivations, story arcs, and the narrative as a whole, this reliance on technology and created what he calls a "rigidity to the process," something that left little room to maneuver. Instead of the process of filming being about the actors, their craft, and their characters, they struggled to figure out where they fit into the overall picture when they’re used to being the center.

Despite his issues in these arenas, Hunnam does say that hey likes Pacific Rim, and is proud of the work they all did, though he’s not shy about expressing his wishes that they can do more in Pacific Rim 2. He adds:
I do feel like we could have maybe plumbed the depths of the character and the storytelling a little bit more.
The last we heard, which has been within just the past two weeks, is that Pacific Rim 2, after a couple of false starts and delays, will finally begin filming this November. The fact that it’s going to get a sequel at all wasn’t always a given. Ultimately, it wound up making more than $411 million globally during its theatrical run, but it was a slow burn. Just over $101 million of that total came from domestic showings, while the rest came from international markets (big action like this translates into any language, just look at the international grosses for the Transformers movies). But with a $190 million price tag and a hefty marketing campaign, it wasn’t as profitable as the studio hoped. But none of that matters now, as Pacific Rim 2 is happening. The story reportedly picks up a few years after the first film, and focuses more on the Kaiju, the monstrous invaders from another dimension. Guillermo del Toro has also said it examines the world once the Kaiju are no longer a threat and looks at what happens to the Jaeger, the skyscraper tall mechs designed to combat the creatures, and their pilots when they are no longer needed. At this point we don’t know who from the original cast will come back, though listening to his words, it certainly sounds like Charlie Hunnam intends to return for more.

Even though it starts filming this year, we still have a while to wait before we see Pacific Rim 2, or Pacific Rim: Maelstrom as it may be knonw, which is scheduled to open August 4, 2017. However, it has already been moved around a couple of times, so don’t be shocked if this switches place again before all is said and done.

Charlie Hunnam and director Guy Ritchie have a warning for movie-goers when they come to see Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur.

Charlie Hunnam will star as King Arthur in a darker version of the character than ever seen before, according to an interview Entertainment Weekly conducted with Guy Ritchie.
“I think where the pitfall has often been is trying to make King Arthur bland and nice, and nice and bland… That King Arthur was a good guy from the beginning. Our King Arthur is not a good guy from the beginning.”
Those sentiments are being shared for the first time since Ritchie and Charlie Hunnam – who played Jackson “Jax” Teller in the FX drama Sons of Anarchy – wrapped up filming for the July 2016 release. According to IMDB, in Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur, Charlie Hunnam’s character uncovers his royal heritage and his famous sword while confronting Vortigern, the dictator that stole his crown while murdering his parents.
Recently, Charlie Hunnam revealed he would rather play a bad guy than a good guy to his faithful followers. And as Cinema Blend reported, to turn King Arthur into a darker character, Charlie revived memories of his role on Sons of Anarchy.
“He’s a little bit rough around the edges, but he’s basically a survivor. He’s a hustler. He’s a street kid. There’s definitely a harder edge to him than people would imagine. It’s sort of classic Guy Ritchie stuff.”
This King Arthur reboot will whisk viewers away into a world of fantasy, with fantasy elements including larger-than-life snakes, elephants and viking-like creatures. Lionel Wigram, the Producer of Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur has expressed some concert that people loyal to the traditional King Arthur story will be disappointed with the liberties taken, Daily Mail reported.
“Hopefully, loyalists won’t be too offended by what we’ve done.”
Alongside Charlie Hunnam is veteran actor Jude Law, playing the role of Vortigern. As IMBD notes, Jude Law is perhaps best known for for his role as Dr. John Watson in the popular Sherlock Holmes movie series as well as several roles throughout his 26-year acting career.
The new King Arthur movie was not originally supposed to be the next Charlie Hunnam movie to be released. Originally cast as Christian Grey in the film Fifty Shades of Grey, Charlie Hunnam backed out due to personal and schedule conflicts. Hello Magazine reported that this was not an easy decision for Charlie Hunnam to make.
“It was very, very painful for me, that whole process, just very unpleasant. I felt like I let myself down. I let those people down on Fifty Shades that I’d grown to really love and respect. For the first time in my life, had more work than I had time to do it.”
Are you glad that Charlie Hunnam has focussed his attention on the new Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur movie or do you wish he’s have played the lead role in Fifty Shades instead?

Twitter buzzing over Charlie Hunnam in Belfast

Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam has been causing a stir online, after it emerged that he had arrived in Belfast to film a new movie. The English actor, who shot to fame in British TV series Queer as Folk, is now arguably best known for his role as Jax Teller in the US biker drama SOA.
Hunnam has since turned his hand to movie roles and is believed to be in Northern Ireland to film The Lost City Of Z, which also stars Robert Pattinson and Sienna Miller.

The 35-year-old, who was originally set to play Christian Grey in Fifty Shades before he pulled out and the role went to Co Down’s Jamie Dornan, was spotted in Belfast city centre over the weekend.
And the actor seemed happy to stop to pose for snaps with delighted fans. That, of course, set tongues wagging over Twitter and Facebook as others tried to guess his exact whereabouts in the hope of catching their own glimpse of the star.
Some American SOA fans were just surprised to find out Belfast, which featured in season three of the show, was a real place – having presumed it was a fictional setting, like Jax’s home of Charming.
Celebrity sightings are becoming more common in Belfast though, with the local filming industry continuing to thrive.
Game of Thrones is just one major series which has chosen the city - and a number of locations across Northern Ireland - for its filming, with the cast regularly spotted out and about.

Charlie Hunnam’s ‘Crimson Peak’ Sex Scenes Will Speak Of Gothic Romance; Guillermo del Toro Calls It ‘Kinky’ Horror“Crimson Peak” sex scenes are talk of the town and why shouldn’t they be, as they are going to speak of true gothic romance from Guillermo del Toro’s eyes. “Crimson Peak” cast includes Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska and Charlie Hunnam. If we are lucky, we might even get to see a R-rated sex scene of Charlie Hunnam and Jessica Chastain!
“Crimson Peak” trailer has everything desirable that will make every viewer go and watch the “kinky” horror movie. Director Guillermo del Toro promises even the colours of the walls and clothes are going to speak horror. In an interview with io9, Guillermo del Toro talks about “Crimson Peak” sex scenes and the ‘house’ used in the movie that he is terribly in love with.
Guillermo del Toro while standing in “Crimson Peak” three-storeyed mansion, sighed and said, “In two weeks, this building will be gone forever… It’s a ****ing shame.” The ‘house’ of “Crimson Peak” is itself a very important character of the movie. Guillermo del Toro believes that “Crimson Peak” is by far his most creative work. He has shot the scene and even sat to redo them repeatedly until they came out perfect.
According to Guillermo del Toro, the sex scenes of “Crimson Peak” are not ‘class porn.’ He says that “Crimson Peak” is fancy and sex scenes are not where everybody is gooey over the other like in “Downtown Abbey.” Guillermo del Toro added, “It’s [“Crimson Peak” is] Miss Havisham. It’s anti-class porn in a way.”
Guillermo del Toro further explained about the sex and romance in the movie saying that he didn’t want to do a straight gothic romance. “Crimson Peak” will have a thrilling love story flowing towards a ghost story, which will unleash the psycho of the movie.

“Crimson Peak” will release on October 16, 2015.

Charlie Hunnam Gave Jessica Chastain an ''Incredible'' Birthday Present—Find Out What It Was!

by Marc Malkin
Thu., Jul. 16, 2015 8:00 PM PDT
Jessica Chastain joked once that she was worried she might fall in love with Charlie Hunnam on the set of their new horror film Crimson Peak.
At the time, Chastain had yet to meet the hunky Sons of Anarchy actor, but he had just been cast in Fifty Shades of Grey.
"Are you telling me I'm going to fall in love with Charlie Hunnam on set?" Chastain asked back in September 2013.
Fast forward to Comic-Con 2015, where I caught up with Chastain and her two other Crimson co-stars Tim Hiddleston and Mia Wasikowska.
"I did not fall in love with Charlie, press out!" Chastain said with a big smile. "I do love him, but I'm not in love with him."
Gushing that Hunnam is "absolutely gorgeous," Chastain revealed that he's also quite the gift-giver. "He's so nice," she said. "He bought me this incredible thoughtful birthday present, this amazing artist and this book of photographs. He's just this normal down-to-earth [guy]. So cool." (For the record, Chastain been seeing Italian fashion executive Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo for quite some time now, certainly before Crimson Peak filming came along.)
In the Guillermo Del Toro-directed Crimson Peak, Wasikowska plays a young author in 19th century England who lives in a house full of ghosts with her mysterious husband (Hiddleston). Chastain plays Hiddleston's seemingly evil sister.
Chastain said she hopes she gets to encounter some real ghosts in her new NYC apartment because the 19th century building is said to be haunted by its architect and an opera singer.
"I have yet to feel anything," Chastain said. "If there [are] ghosts, let's hang out."

Charlie Hunnam To Play Green Arrow In ‘The Justice League — Part One’ Movie? In a rather wacky fandom fantasy, an online petition was launched recently by fans of Charlie Hunnam asking DC and Warner Brothers to cast him as Green Arrow in The Justice League Part One movie, slated to release in November next year.
The petition was launched on Change.org by a group of comic book and Charlie Hunnam enthusiasts who were disappointed with DC’s decision not to feature Green Arrow in the big screen version of The Justice League, which is to be directed by Zach Snyder, and stars Ben Affleck (Batman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Henry Cavill (Superman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), and Ray Fisher (Cyborg) in the lead roles.
Earlier, DC and Warner Brothers had announced their decision not to include Green Arrow in the core group of Justice League superheroes, disappointing fans of the hit live-action TV show Arrow, who had grown used to Stephen Amell’s portrayal of the green hood-sporting superhero.
But after Amell was not picked up for a film version, rumors began circulating on the internet that Warner Brothers and DC were open to the idea of including Green Arrow’s character in The Justice League Part One, but that they were not satisfied with Amell playing the part. It was then that Charlie Hunnam fans came up with the idea of him being cast as Oliver Queen, aka Green Arrow, primarily because of his uncanny similarities with the character in the comic books.
A fan wrote about the Charlie Hunnam petition on Movie Pilot.
“Who will wear the green hood on the big screen? And I believe Charlie Hunnam of the recently ended Sons of Anarchy and Pacific Rim is perfect for the job. [Charlie Hunnam] definitely has the looks. He’s got the seriousness and grittiness that DC is bringing to their superhero films. He’s got the acting ability. He’s got the fan-base. He’s got what it takes to bring the Green Arrow to the DC movie universe and to finally make an appearance alongside the Justice League in 2017… Don’t you all want to see Oliver Queen be brought to life on the big screen? All Charlie Hunnam needs now is to be noticed by both DC and Warner Brothers to get this going!”
Comic Book Movies had a different take on the Charlie Hunnam / Green Arrow debate.
“While I think Stephen Amell plays a fine Green Arrow, I don’t think you can have the Justice League and not have Green Arrow show up at some point, and who better to play him than Charlie Hunnam. I mean just look at that Van Dyne beard! Isn’t it glorious?!? He looks just like Oliver and I think he is the best choice to play Green Arrow on the silver-screen.”
Well, some think that Charlie Hunnam would make a fine Green Arrow, but until this dream turns into reality, we can at least get our regular Charlie Hunnam fix in Crimson Peak and Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur.

Charlie Hunnam: 10 Facts You May Not Know About The ‘Sons of Anarchy’ Star Charlie Hunnam has had an interesting life. The British actor has rarely shied away from discussing his life at public forums, and today we list 10 fascinating facts about the man himself.

10. Charlie Hunnam’s father was a gangster and a scrap-metal dealer, who passed away in 2013. In an interview with USA Today before his father’s death, Charlie Hunnam spoke about his father.
“My dad’s a real hard guy. He made money outside of the law. So I was very aware of the outlaw mentality. He was very kind of feared and respected and also loved in equal parts. I mean, he was really a kind of serious guy when he was younger.”
9. And while Charlie Hunnam’s father may have been an outlaw, his mother was a ballet dancer, and his grandmother a portrait artist in Newcastle, England. He spoke of his parents’ relationship in an interview with Showbiz Junkies.
“She met my father who was a few years older, who was a very kind of, even by that point, a notorious, well-known, well-loved face in the Newcastle scenery. She just got swept off her feet by him.”
8. When Charlie Hunnam was still a young boy, as reported by Collider, he was expelled from secondary school and was forced to take his exams from home.
7. Charlie Hunnam did not intend to be an actor, but a writer-director. It was with this idea in mind that he went to Cumbria College of Art and Design, where he graduated with a degree in the theory and history of film with a minor in performing arts.
6. Charlie Hunnam took an 18-month sabbatical from acting right before Sons of Anarchy. He wrote a film during that period, which is about a part of English society that has seldom been explored. He spoke to Collider about the film.
“I felt like I needed to do something that I had control over, as an artist, and also just do something where I felt like I had some control over my life, as just a human, out in the world. Being at the mercy of the acting profession, in the early days of one’s career, is really brutal and feels like you have no control over your life, at all.”
5. Charlie Hunnam met his girlfriend Morgana McNelis, a jewellery designer, in 2007. They lead a very un-Hollywood lifestyle, living just outside L.A. on a ranch. He spoke to SF Gate about it.
“We’ve got 30 chickens and a couple of donkeys, a couple of ducks and we’ve got a big, organic garden. We are going to try to live a bit more sustainably. The chickens have already started to make friends with me and I really want to eat them… Oh man! I am going to be taking them to the vet and giving them mouth to mouth.”
4. Charlie Hunnam has been candid about his marijuana usage, and as reported by Fashion & Style, one of his many talents include heading straight to the gym after smoking a joint.
3. Charlie Hunnam played the thespian Lloyd Haythe, starring alongside Seth Rogen and Jason Segel in Judd Apatow’s coming-of-age TV comedy Undeclared. The show only lasted for a season but has since garnered a cult following.

2. Charlie Hunnam is dyslexic.
1. During the shooting of Sons of Anarchy, Charlie Hunnam would carry raw eggs to the sets, which were cooked for him by the craft service guys. Charlie Hunnam spoke to BoomsBeat about the experience.
“They’re like, ‘Why are you bringing your own eggs?’ I’m like, ‘Cause your eggs are from Monsanto. Mine are from a farm down the road.'”

Charlie Hunnam’s Rise To StardomCharlie Hunnam has never been your typical kid next door. His father was a scrap metal merchant and a pretty well-known gangster in the Newcastle-upon-Tyne region in England, and while his mother was a business owner, she hailed from a family of artists. According to Showbiz Junkies, Charlie Hunnam owes his hard-boiled machismo personality to his father, while his bohemian and rather eclectic creative streak comes from his mother’s side. A quick glance at his work portfolio will attest to this fact.

Born in a working-class town, Charlie Hunnam grew up a tough kid with a sweet face. According to a report by Huffington Post, he was discovered drunkenly messing around in a shoe shop by the production manager of kids TV series Byker Grove. A year later in 1999, Charlie Hunnam landed his first major TV role when he was cast as a 15-year-old schoolboy Nathan Maloney in the progressive gay drama, Queer as Folk. When the show ended in 2000, Charlie Hunnam packed his bags and moved to LA, and he has never looked back since.
After small roles in U.S. teen drama Young American and Judd Apatow’s comedy series Undeclared, Charlie Hunnam made the jump to the big screen, starring alongside Katie Holmes and Zooey Deschanel in Stephen Gaghan’s thriller Abandon. The film bombed at the box office, and it failed to set Charlie Hunnam’s career ablaze.
In an ironic twist of fate, Douglas McGrath wanted Charlie Hunnam to play the title role in his Dickensian film Nicholas Nickleby; but the actor, having lived and worked in the U.S. for several years at that stage, had trouble speaking in the British accent. Finally, he worked with a dialect coach and the movie garnered accolades from several quarters for providing colorful entertainment, and Charlie Hunnam was especially praised for his acting.
Charlie Hunnam continued to act in films, returning to England to take the lead in Green Street Hooligans. According to the Independent, it was his role as football hooligan Pete Dunham that later convinced Kurt Sutter, the creator of Sons of Anarchy, to cast Charlie Hunnam as the protagonist of his show, Jackson “Jax” Teller.
From a baby-faced teenage sensation in Queer as Folk to the burly motorcycle club vice president in Sons of Anarchy, Charlie Hunnam proved to the world that he had it all in his repertoire. In an interview with Showbiz Junkies, he spoke about how he used to think about his father when playing Jax.
“I [thought] about my dad a tremendous amount while filming Jax.”
Next up for the talented actor is Guy Ritchie’s adaptation of the classic Camelot fable Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur, the shooting of which is already wrapped up. He will also be seen in Guillermo Del Toro’s gothic-fantasy Crimson Peak. And though Charlie Hunnam enjoys working in movies, he admitted his preference for TV in the interview with Huffington Post.
“I actually really prefer the pace and flow of working in TV. The challenges that are present in filmmaking I find much more difficult to navigate. But I don’t want to jump into another show right away because I need some freedom.”
Whether he works in films or TV, fans of Charlie Hunnam can look forward to some exciting times ahead.

I find it hard to believe that many Americans did not know that Belfast was a real city in Ireland.
Think that is a bit of an insult to most of us who have access to history and geography in school
and the TV programs every day to know what Belfast is and where it is located.
