Charlie commented once that he concentrated so much on doing an American accent in Season 1 & 2 that he felt his acting suffered because of that. I think that could be the case now. He has some really heavy duty scenes to do so maybe the accent slips now and again. Probably easier said than done until you try it.

I think Charlie is such a great actor. I don't really zero in on the accent so much. Now that's he's back in the UK, maybe it'll spiff up again.

I think that sometimes we smile when it is to our advantage. Probably, we copy the other person(s) expression(s), but we do have the ability to produce our own expressions as well.
