These types of topics have popped up before, the general consensus is: the term 'VIP' is used deceitfully by dishonest sellers use to pass off fakes. Often, these items are totes, duffle bags... Chanel does sometimes give out things like VIP mirrors, makeup purses etc, but they usually will not give out items that represent others they sell. For example, there's no such thing as a VIP chanel flap bag. Chanel has also confirmed that handbags are not part of any VIP promotion; cheap gifts that compromise their reputation as a high end luxury designer like vinyl gift bags and flimsy nylon bags with bold logos? Nope.
I've spoken to SAs and they confirm that the mini backpacks, mesh shoulder chain bags, duffles, etc floating around sites like ebay are fake, and there's a reason why you don't see them on more reputable sites like
Fashionphile, TheRealReal, Yoogi's Closet. The fakes often use materials such as patent, mesh, nylon, vinyl etc since they're easier to pass than leather, and logos are cheaply screen printed, not embroidered on.
More often than not, real GWP (gift with purchases) are usually accessories, while fake VIP items are usually made to look like a cheaper version of Chanel's handbag line. Chanel beauty line does hand out the odd bag, but they would be tagged on the side with 'Chanel Beauté'. I would just use common sense and say that a consistent red flag is a seller is skirting around authenticity questions. Most sellers that sell genuine goods typically say so right up front. Where did they get it, when did they get it? Ask questions! If they can't answer, that's a red flag.
Take everything I'm saying with a grain of salt, I don't claim to be an expert, this is just information I've gathered from reading multiple things about this and speaking to SAs myself.
