I think no increase is horrible news! The classics have been a great long term investment because you've been assured yearly increases which have increased the resale value of the bags. You could justify spending $2k on a bag because you knew down the road it would be worth $4k. People who bought used could literally see a 100% return on their investment over time... while those buying new could one day get all of their original money back... plus have the pleasure of having had a brand new out the box bag. No increase this year just kills the whole party. You've now got an item that is not appreciating in value. And what's even scarier is the deeper reasons why no increases were done in the past year. Maybe the pricepoint has reached a level where people just won't pay more. Sales may have dropped.. demand dropped. Chanel isn't skipping a price increase as a thank you to all their customers.... trust me. If Chanel is not raising prices... it's basically because they can't. So on just about every level... no price increase is very bad news to those who love Chanel.

Although it is wonderful to hope that all of your assets and items purchased increase in value, it is not something someone should rely on when thinking about purchasing a handbag or other fashion item. Brands go in and out of popularity. Historically, clothing and accessories depreciate in value pretty quickly. You cannot rely on the going concern of a brand and other consumers' willingness to purchase their products, thereby keeping demand high. If you buy something like a Chanel, it should be because you're not immediately thinking about resale value but rather what its worth to you to own it and how much enjoyment you will receive from the good.

This is a very interesting point of view on the price increase situation. As frustrated as I am at the idea of having to pay more for a classic that was hundreds of dollars less a year ago, I do have to agree with you that if Chanel chooses to skip a price increase, it is likely because they had to and not because they wanted to. I think Chanel has also created a situation in which people are continuously buying bags earlier than they otherwise would in constant fear of a looming price increase - which is good business on their part, but again, frustrating for me as a customer.

I somewhat feel the same as you. But as we all know..chanel will increase the price on classics one day...maybe not 3/1 but it will definitely happen. So let's just enjoy no price increases for now hehhe

I just hope they won't increase the price, until that red caviar arrives at NM :-). My collection is at the point that I'm happy that there is no price increase. I guess if I had all the classics I wanted to have, I'd be frustrated that my investment is not appreciating.

I agree & disagree. On one hand Chanel has already pushed it so far these last few increases that they truly are pricing people out. However, I don't think they're not selling. While it probably isn't quite as brisk as before The stores are constantly still selling out of the classics and having to replenish. Where it's dead is the resale market. Nobody wants to pay 4-5 K + for a second hand flap or even if it's new they feel safer just spending that kind of money at a boutique. The prices are so high now that a seller will never make it back. Unless a seller is willing to lose money, the bag will sit there. (Obvious exceptions like a rare or HTF color) Maybe after another increase, the resale market will be able to bear today's prices.

So holding off increasing a bit does benefit Chanel as it could possibly alienate and price out more customers & it benefits us obviously. Besides we could hear any minute that it's coming soon. It won't hold off forever.

ditto! vintage and used flaps haven't gotten the premium price people are asking for on Ebay or elsewhere, and they mostly likely never will. Unless the used bags are in very well-kept condition, they're hard to command top dollar, and that's after years of being put away first to wait on the price increases and after all the fees, it's really not that great of an investment if one's only concerned with $ return.
