Valentino totes go on sale so I'd probably wait for sales or look for them on Rue La La. That's why they don't hold their value!
There are many beautiful Chanel totes besides GST. I wouldn't use maxi for every day. It's really too heavy!
GST is a perfect work horse for me and you can kick the bag back a bit so straps don't fall off.
I also recommend chic and soft tote or shopping fever tote if you find GST too heavy.
Or, I like my Chanel cross body coco pleats bag!

We have similar taste & bags! My 2 cents...
GST -holds files & great work tote but more formal. Shopping Fever - Lighter than GST and less formal so a great everyday tote like LV neverfull but with a zipper top! Coco pleats messenger can be dressed up or down (can remove strap) and a great city bag and so easy on weekends. Holds iPad, bottle of water and everything else for running around town hands free! My favorite!
I love the second tote as well! But it's a bit pricy. I recall a TPFer did a reveal for this bag.

I only like valentino rockstuds for their small bags and shoes. Can't justify paying for the larger Valentino RS bags when they're not as versatile and does not date well like the other ladies have stated. Chanel has vintage charm when it gets old. I don't think valentino bags date well.

you've all been a tremendous help! i ordered the GST and will decide between the maxi and GST. i have a feeling the GST will win me over since totes are more carefree and easy to use than flap bags. i love flaps for a dressier look. can't wait to receive the GST- thank you all!!!!
i appreciate the suggestions! everyone has the same idea about the valentino being trendy down the line. hopefully the same doesn't hold true for the pumps!?!!
I voted for the Chanel because it sounded like u wanted to buy a bag that would keep value over time.
