Hi all

I only own 1 Chanel at the moment as I'm a avid Louis Vuitton fan but recently I found myself eyeing Chanel up a lot more often. Maybe it's because I'm getting a little older and my tastes are changing.

I currently own the GST in black caviar with SH as it fits in with my needs and lifestyle as I am a mum of 2 young children so it's super handy.

I will be getting a bonus from my company in December and I'm planning on spending it on a new handbag but I have a few head issues.

Firstly the sensible side of me is thinking "stay practical I.e buy 2 new bags that are more likely to get carried and are low maintenance with 2 kids.

But the other monkey on my back is telling me that I get seldom opportunity to buy one of the two handbags I am currently thinking on (classic flap or le boy)

I currently don't own a black bag so that needs to be the colour , I'm 36 but I dress pretty casual I don't go out much in the evening as I have 2 small children so I am torn on which bag to get and why?

I think whichever I get will have to have silver hardware as I think gold hardware is a bit too dressy for my style.

I know maybe classic flap might be more of an investment piece but I wanna hear your thoughts on what is best and explanations why .

I have done some research on YouTube etc but I've got a month or so before I make the purchase so knowledge is power!

Also if any body can throw pics/modelling shots in would be awesome.

THANKS GUYS x

Have you tried both bags in the store? Feel free to post comparison mod pics.

Yes I'm a lv fan too just because they make bags for every occasion. I have both cf and boy and also live in tshirt and jeans on weekends.

black is a sensible choice. A black boy is edgier and can be dressed up or down, it would definitely suit your lifestyle. Just bear in mind that some people do find the chunky chains annoying, others love it. Imo chevron boy is very nice and goes well with silver, and do get the boy in caviar leather as it's easier to maintain.

Don't have much to say about a black classic flap other than that you can't go wrong with it. Go for a jumbo if you prefer bigger bags? Imo a medium Cf in lambskin is gorgeous and not that delicate. I was sceptical but now a converted Lamb fan.

Hi There

Thank you very much for my first reply!

No, I haven't travelled to the store to try, my nearest Chanel is possibly London so it's a huge distance for me to go so I'll possibly be buying online so I won't even get to try these beforehand that's why I'm asking for as much input as possible [emoji3]

I do love boys but I'm just scared that it won't be as much of an investment piece in comparison to the classic flap?

Have you got any preferences to which leather ?my GST is caviar and I've heard that it holds up better to wear, I've also heard that boys are quite prone to wear and tear?

Hello!

So on the question of 2 bags vs 1: get what you love the most and crave. Most craved/loved does not = most expensive. If a chanel bag is what u crave and u got the 2 instead, you will just need to get a chanel eventually to scratch that itch and that’s just the cost of 3 bags to satisfaction. If none of them truly are what you crave then just use the $ on vacation or something

Comment on boy bag chain is real consideration. Have pretty much the variations of chanel types and sizes. I think you are wise to think of your lifestyle for the right bag not just what is popular. I’m not a fan of the slipping of the chain sometimes but I’m ok with it as I mostly cross body the boy bags. On classic flap I assume you will need a larger size like a jumbo. Not sure of your height but I always say you should try on jumbo and boy bags with your daily stuff inside before you decide. How it looks on you is one thing, but additionally: Boy for the chain reason and classic flap for the weight (heavier) and also the chain is quite long and hit me lower than I like when worn cross bodied or on one side single chained (I’m 5’8”).
I always find the reissue size 226 or227 (depends on how much space you need) in classic distressed calfskin the perfect bag practicality wise. It’s flexible gorgeous and the distressed calf I argue would be as durable as the caviar leather but feel so luxe. Holds more and perfect chain length too. But note that some people don’t like having to fit the turn knob into the rectangular lock but I have little to no problems with it though it’s something you should try and see if bother u after a few attempts (sort of get used to it and then nonissue for me) However it doesn’t have the cc logo turn lock and more discrete so it’s really a style preference. Just thought I’d raise it for your consideration. Good luck!

No bag is an "investment" if you're going to regret your choice! :) you should purchase whatever makes you happy.

In terms of practicality do get the boy in caviar, it's just as durable as a classic flap. As as above reissue is gorgeous too, I always take note whenever I see one whereas almost everyone seems to have a black cf.

Cf can also be quite dressy for certain occasions so I tend to grab my boy more, I also feel like the cf needs "a break" from daily use whereas boy is more fuss free

Ok I guess so I think what it is is....

The classic flap has always been a "one day I'll own that bag" from the days I couldn't afford any designer bags and I was bringing my daughter up single handily but things changed and my life and finances got better.

So now I'm actually in the position to buy one it's almost scaring me and there's so many other choices my classic flap was going to be a treat when I hit 40 but my hubby pointed out that I may not be in a financial position to buy then... who knows what's around the corner?

His motto is time to buy is when you see.

Trouble is I'm seeing 2!!!

Hi There

I do like the reissue but not "in love" so to speak.

Is the chain really annoying on the boy?

Do you have any mod pics of these 2 bags as you are the exact same height as me [emoji846]

Very well stated.

I’d like to add, the Reissue is a bag that can be gently smashed under your arm when on public transportation or on a city street. I feel like my bag is more secure in the city because of this. It also has the “Mona Lisa” pocket in the back for quick money or parking garage tickets. It’s a great everyday bag. My Reissue has ghw. I was told ghw would look too dressy on a bag, so I went straight for the ruthenium in the store. I was surprised when I found the ruthenium/black combination against my coloring looked too monochromatic. The ghw gave the bag a little pop and it went well with my coloring.

Le Boy bags are what attracted me to Chanel! I have yet to get one, but I am determined to make that my next bag.
It’s a statement, lightweight and the chain strap is comfortable, especially because you can change it to suit how you like to carry a bag. But, you can’t smash it under your arm and it has no outer pocket. I’ve heard it shows a bit more cornerwear than a Reissue, so I’m guessing it’s not an every-single-day-one-and-only-forever bag?

I have a Jumbo. I’m 5’10” and the chain is too long to crossbody. Besides, the bag is kind of bulky and awkward. I’ve kept it because it was my first Chanel- it’s a nine year old single flap caviar. It’s still in excellent condition. I don’t wear it very often- compared to my Reissue 226 it feels too big.

Two bags? I understand that thought as well. Chanel’s are pricey and with two small children, You might feel like you need to be a bit more careful.
Do what makes you happiest (with a dash of what makes you most comfortable). You’ll know in your heart. Just try not to regret your choice. Love your bag(s) knowing there are more to come in your future. :drinks:

Thanks hon.

I meant 2 bags from other designers, I probably could buy 2 LVs that are likely to be used more but I think I've perhaps answered my own doubts really

I thought you meant two LV bags. Yes, sometimes I look at LV bags and think about the price difference, too. Some LV bags are getting really pricey, too. Oh my!
Have you decided? You’ll have to let us know when you do.
You can’t lose with either Chanel or LV.

If I were you, I'd get one Chanel bag. You've wanted one for so long and I agree with your hubby that now is the time to treat yourself. It sounds like you deserve it [emoji106].

I have both the reissue and jumbo, but not a boy. I want one but never pulled the trigger because I felt the quality on the classic flap was better for the same price. So I purchased classic bags first with the idea that if I were to get another Chanel, it would be the Boy down the line.

I'd love to hear more about your height and bag wearing preferences. Are you tall? Short? Do you prefer to wear your bags on the shoulder or crossbody? Would you feel comfortable wearing the jumbo on casual occasions or only fancy ones? What about the Boy? Reissue? Would you feel self-conscious about wearing it?

I don't get to wear my jumbo or reissue often but I wear my reissue more because it's understated. If I had a boy I think I would wear it more because of the crossbody factor alone, but I'm also on the shorter side (5'4") so I think I could get away with wearing it crossbody. But the jumbo is not a crossbody bag, just a shoulder one.

By the way I'm also a mom so I understand your dilemma. But there are times when you want a Chanel, and your little ones won't be little forever.

Edit: I just saw that you're tall, so crossbody is out for both bags. I'd get the jumbo then. It will be more durable and better made in caviar. My jumbo is 3 years old and looks brand new.

The Chanel classic flap in the jumbo size was actually my first Chanel. I bought it four years ago but I found while I love the look of it, I did not use it as much as I thought I would.

The jumbo is actually pretty heavy once I put my essentials in (wallet, keys, card holder, cell phone, lip gloss). It is also too long for me to crossbody (I’m 5’ 5”).

I purchased the boy this year in caviar. I love the style and I have used it a lot more than my jumbo. It’s lighter and fits just as much even though it looks smaller.

I think it really depends what style you’re looking for. The classic flap is more of a dressy bag while I find the boy more casual so it’s perfect for my lifestyle. Also, if you are interested in caviar, keep in mind that the classic flap has the more rigid durable caviar whereas the seasonal boys tend to have the finer grained softer caviar.

I vote for 1 Chanel rather than 2 other bags too; I feel like you will still be eyeing the Chanel so u may as well get it and enjoy it! And as nycmamaofone said, your little ones won't be little forever.

I think you may need to think about how you want to use this bag.
1. Size-Is this something you will be carrying with the kids or is this an evening/adults out bag?
2. Leather-Size and usage will come into play when trying to determine leather. (The larger bags are heavier in caviar vs lambskin.)
3. Heart-What does your heart say? Which bag makes you swoon and happy to see it? That is the most important question!

If you give us more info on how you plan on using your new bag and what size capacity you need, everyone here can definitely enable, ahem I mean, help you decide!

Hi

I can see you are from Leicester - i live nearby and it's only an hour trip to London. I hugely recommend going in person. First, the online market is full of superfakes, secondly - the experience of buying Chanel bag is typically worth it (box, ribbons, camelia) and also you might spend some time trying the bag on (I've changed my mind on M/L flap when i saw it in person and tried on while lusting for it for months before).

Hi

I totally get you but I can't really travel too far at the minute my baby is still very young and I can't really get anyone to have them for me.

Wish I could though!
