Chanel Chevron So Black Jumbo - Is it worth the investment?

I have this in quilted, but I wish I had it in chevron. (Still absolutely love it though.) It's difficult to answer this question subjectively regarding the price, but my answer is that if you know you'll use it and that you can afford it, you should go for it.
The quilted is a beautiful bag and a great classic to own! Thank you so much for your comment and help!

I saw one on ebay you can probably get a way better deal through there. The seller has great feedback and it’s in excellent condition! As for the investment part unlike Hermes it won’t increase in value i’ve seen the prices go up and down for this chanel. The people who you see sell it for $7000 wait many months and you need to factor in commission. In my opinion save for an Hermes especially since i think the chevron pattern is trendy and not a classic. But if you love it go for it!

Thank you so much for your message and the advise to check up on eBay. I will check it out!

I have this in medium, it is a beauty but that is one hefty price tag!! I’d say you have to REALLY love it or just go to a boutique and find something else you love just as much that is brand new and probably a teeny bit less $$

Is this bag your holy grail? Would you be satisfied after buying it with the idea that you may not buy another for a while, or that this may be your only Chanel for a while? When you think of any other bags that you have been eyeing, do they compare to this one? I agree with other responses above you must love it. If you do, shop around for the best deal. If this isn’t always possible just go in knowing that it is a lot of money, but things can always be re-sold at a bit of a price. I just bought my HG bag a classic caviar flap when I lost the sale of a so black boy. A week later a nearly brand new so black boy came around and I paid the same price as my brand new Chanel flap from the boutique. Sometimes that’s just the way it goes !

I would suggest you buy it and enjoy it but be careful as it is really difficult to come by an authentic piece - so many fake copies out there (mine was a real got lucky from bloomingdales NYC despite me being from London where they were virtually mpossible to be found!) I have never needed to look back ever since - however if you have some minor qualms about it being used - send it to a bag clinic to be buffed up beautifully (obviously not any old place either!)! It should be most worthwhile indeed I think.

Something that has not been mentioned, yet is important for you to consider before deciding on this purchase, is that a number of Chanel so-black handbags have suffered chipping of the black hardware. I do not believe ALL suffer this phenomenon, however, there are multiple threads on Purse Forum that describe this unfortunate scenario. I believe it may be more prominent with the so-black Boy Bags.

I currently own the so-black jumbo in tumbled calfskin from 2017. I also purchased the first so-black Boy Bag in iridescent grained lambskin leather that same year. I immediately returned the Boy Bag since I was never a Boy Bag girl-at-heart, and because there were so many threads and photos showing the black hardware chipping.

Lastly, this is going to be your very 1st Chanel and only black bag? Personally, I would run in-the-other-direction from this marked-up consignment piece. And I say this as someone who carries only Chanel black lambskin small leather goods (long zip-around wallet + 2 oval cosmetic cases since 2016) in her handbag every day of the year.

My very 1st Chanel was the caviar chevron jumbo classic flap with silver hardware from 2016. She is still my most favorite to this day! I have since added both lambskin jumbos, more caviar quilted, caviar chevron and the tumbled calfskin jumbos to my collection (there is a photo posted somewhere deep in the PF collection section, lol). I have 3 lambskin jumbos: black, bright blue and dark pink; I plan to re-sell all 3. With ample personal experience, I WOULD continue to purchase Chanel lambskin small leather goods all day, but NOT a lambskin jumbo. Due to its increased surface area, propensity to fading dye at the corners, dents and scratches every time it bumps into a passing corner, and adding to that the risk of chipping black hardware, it "might" be the right purchase if it was an alternate Chanel or black handbag in your collection, but by no means would I choose it to be my one-and-only.

And for a handbag that, yes, was one of the first so-black options to be released, hence the quick selling out of inventory, it would not sell in the same manner in today's market. Chanel has increased its inventory of so-black collections released and especially in leathers that lend to durability. Lastly, please make sure to check the odor of the consigned piece. That is one of the most common complaints I see about handbags purchased on the 2nd-hand market. Simply my 2 cents . . . in order for you to be completely informed.

Wishing you the best in your 1st Chanel handbag buying experience! :flowers:
