I’m deciding between two very different bags to add to my closet. I am wondering how comfortable the boy bag is in medium? Is it practical for everyday? This would be my first Chanel bag and the other I am between in a second Hermes. Thanks for opinions

I love the boy bag, but I don’t have one yet. My chanel SA thinks I would need a size small. She has a boy medium and says she bangs it all the time. I’m more an H bag person. Which H bag are you considering? I have a mini Della cavalleria that I think may sub in form and function for a boy

i always like to read other threads when I’m ruminating, so here are some that may be of interest:

for love of the boy bag:

and, this one isn’t really on point, but it’s a nice outline of thought process

My Old Medium caviar RHW Boy is surprisingly one of my most used bags, second after my Reissue! I love wearing my bags crossbody and I find my Old Medium Boy's length perfect for crossbody. The length is about the same as the small 19 but my 19 is more delicate goatskin so I don't wear it as often as the Boy for everyday purposes. Plus the leather strap at the top makes it more comfortable (than, say, metal chains) for wearing all day long. The Boy is surprisingly lightweight, sans the chunky metal chains.

Love using my boy bag. Personally, I had the medium and it was a tad bit small for me. Felt like I was stuffing everything in it. So, I sold it and got the New Medium. No regrets, love it. But this comes down to what you personally carry. It sits just a bit high on me crossbody (I’m 5’6”), but I manage. It’s a wonderful bag.

I love the boy bag!! I have 3 sizes (new medium, old medium, & small- all in caviar).

I love this style as an everyday bag because I mainly wear my bags crossbody & the boy has a good crossbody length for me. I’m only 5’ so strap length can be a dealbreaker. Plus I like the fact that I can wear the boy bag doubled up as well.

The new medium fits a lot & the strap length feels shorter. It’s roughly comparable to a 226 for storage capacity. It is a bit bulky on a shortie like me, but I love it for days when I need to carry more.

The old medium is the classic size that everyone else loves- except me! I bought it because it’s the most popular size but I wish that I bought the small. Storage capacity is relatively good. But I still end up using a card case because it’s hard to fit a mini pochette, wallet, & phone & car fob. And I find this size as still a little bulky when worn crossbody.

The small is my favorite size. It looks sooo flattering!! It’s perfect for crossbody. I find the strap length the longest, but it still works because the bag itself is very compact. Storage is minimal. I use a card case & the back flap pocket for extra cash/cards. I can fit in my essentials, but I cannot use a pouch/pochette. (Card case, key fob, perfume, tiny compact, lipstick, tiny floss, mask, 1 folded tissue, & regular iPhone all fit directly in bag).

I don’t like the classic minis (as my favorite bags) because they only have 2 grommets and lambskin leather options. I find that I miss the shoulder carry option too much. I also don’t like the 19 (as a favorite) because of the strap length, lambskin, & lack of structure. I think that I would like the mini reissue slightly more than the small boy if the reissue came in non-distressed leather options. (The mini reissue fits more than the small boy).

Go to the boutique and try on a lot of different styles & sizes. You may be surprised with your ideal bag.

I sold my old medium boy . It was a unicorn seasonal special edition bag, but I found it uncomfortable to wear and get in and out of. I’m in my forties now so I’m not willing to sacrifice beauty for comfort. There has to be a balance and using the boy was more trouble than I could deal with. I prefer my reissues when I want to use a crossbody Chanel bag.

Oh wow I’ve had the opposite issue. Reissue is hard to get in and out of, old medium is easier for me. Which seasonal boy did you sell, if I may ask?

This might be an unpopular opinion but I feel that the boy feels a bit like “women of a certain era” will wear that. Chanel 19 has that same “trendy” vibe as well. Still prefer the classic flaps.

I don’t see anything wrong with trendy. Everyone seems to have the same classic flaps. Seasonal bags stand apart and most hold their value and then some

I sold my medium boy bag a while ago, and I don't regret it at all. I really loved the look, but for a daily use it was a nightmare for me. I like my bags to be easy to use, and functional, and the boy was quite the opposite. Getting in or out because of the huge and thick lap was driving me crazy, not to mention the gaps on the both sides. If you are looking for a causal daily bag from Chanel - the 19 is perfect in my opinion.

The boy bags have different uses for different sizes. The small boy bag will fit as much as a wallet on chain when you consider that you will have to add a small wallet to it and I would use it more as a chic evening bag. The medium size is a great everyday bag. Depending on your height it's a great crossbody bag as well. It will naturally sit a little higher on your hip and I would suggest wearing it more towards the front or the back and not directly on your hip which will cause it to stick out and bounce as you walk. The chain itself is hollow so it's look is heavier than the actual weight of the bag when you carry it. The only complaint I remember hearing about the boy bag is the opening on either side of the flap allows smaller items like lipsticks or coins to fall out. I would suggest keeping smaller items like lipsticks or coins in a smaller pouch or small zip wallet. But I always thought it was a cool modern looking classic. Here is a tip as well. If your chain does that weird twist by the side metal hoops and stops feeding straight and clean all around, just pull the leather strap through the metal hoops and that should straighten it out. I see women walking around with boy bags like that and it makes my skin itch. I've helped a few in passing who have allowed me.
