Chain durability? Worried about breaking.

When people talk about clasps breaking, what do you mean? Where does the clasp break?

I have plenty of different chains (sterling, platinum, rose gold) and I've had one - only one - break. They are tougher than they look.

Now the clasps, on the other hand...I wear those out pretty regularly. But that is fixed with a quick trip to Customer Service and a short trip to New York for the item.

Oh this sucks! Did the clasp break or the actual chain?

I haven’t had this happen with Tiffany, but I’ve had other necklaces where either the clasp itself broke and wouldn’t close properly, or the clasp detached from the chain. I’ve never experienced the middle part of a chain break if that makes sense.

It was the chain. I did have the bracelet shortened (by Tiffany), but I'm not sure exactly where they did it, so I don't know if I can blame the weakened chain on that. It's a possibility if everyone says that their chains are typically very durable.
That’s interesting. I hope they fixed it for you with no problems.

That’s helpful to know. I wear my dbty bracelet without thinking about it or checking the clasp, but maybe I’ll pay more attention.

The clasps, I believe, have a tiny spring - that is how they essentially open and close firmly. The tension keeps them from sliding opening unintentionally. With use and wear, they become loose. You can tell when it's an issue - the clasp won't slide back into place like it usually does.

I wear my necklace 24/7 and take it off only when I have facial. I'm not saying the clasp is badly designed, just that over time it wears.
