in a beautiful and very slimming Astrakhan fur coat credit Getty Images. Does anyone have experience with this fur type? I own a curly lamb coat and it is very warm but these I think are more suitable for Spring or early Autumn wear?
The Astrakhan lamb hide is very thin, and the fur, while dense, is fine, so definitely not a coat for warmth. I have a long vest which is perfect for layering. Sometimes sheared curly lamb is passed off as Astrakhan, so buy from a reputable furrier because the price differential between the two furs is large. The white colour in the photo is very rare - an entire coat in this colour is extremely luxurious..

That's my understanding also. Astrakhan and Karakul are much more expensive than Curly Lamb. I haven't seen many in lighter colours and I guess that would follow if the prices of lighter coloured furs is higher.

Yes my curly lamb was only £300 or so thus I am sure it is considered a high end desirable fur. I have seen more expensive similar coats but not in the lighter colours.

I have taken some (very uncomplimentary) pics of my fur coat. It is definitely curly lamb - I don't know why but the hairs seem longer on the pic than they look when the jacket is worn. Would love to see your vest! My lambskin coat is pretty warm and I guess because the fur is thicker / longer.

Anyway, I'm not a celebrity so I ought not to have hijacked the thread.

Just wanted you to know PP that if you are interested a Karakul there is a decent online sale at a furrier in Manchester, England and they have a lovely one (actually Id probably change the collar).

£5200 (which seems a pretty good price anyway for this fur) .. reduced to £2450.

If this came without that huge collar I could definitely see my wearing this! Seems a good price too.
