Catching Coachie Fever!

Well I'll play on this one...

I got my first Coach bag in high school...it was from my mom a few years after my dad died for my birthday. I was a good kid, as geeky and nerdy as I am now, responsible, honor society, band, only 17 when I graduated high school...you get the idea. But honestly I never appreciated just how expensive that was until I was older.

Nothing new has compared to that heavy-duty sturdy leather on that bag or the classic ones I bought myself later, but I enjoy the SIZE and style of the newer bags more. I strayed, spent most of the 90s in Dooney because honestly does anything hold up like AWL which is practically nuclear safe....came back to Coach maybe mid 2000s.

I have ALWAYS loved purses even before that beautiful first Coach and have been addicted to the style, smell, texture, colors, etc. of a great handbag. I do love Coach for the huge variety of styles, outlet, and pricepoint. I spent the last year or so reworking my collection selling older bags and buying new (I tend to keep styles for a very long time.)

I have some funkier bags (not just Coach) that I really like, though I don't always wear as much as I would like. I have a few Coach bags that attract compliments (Caroline being one!) Mostly my Isabella Fiore bags attract the most attention (literally had a lady pull her car over roll her window down and ask me where I got my bag one day when I was downtown!) So I do love Coach, but it's not all I love....and I have spent the last year really reworking my collection to hold a variety of colors and styles, even though I mostly pull out black (shameful!)

So, that's where I started and where I'm at. Oh I did get my sister addicted, and she loves small bags...which is one thing great about Coach. She gets her little bags and I get my "luggage" and we're both happy! :D

Sharing my personal experience, I am actually converted by my friend. I used to care less about fashion and she kept pestering me to replace my ugly coin purse. She brought me to coach store in chicago one day and i saw this cute pink credit card wallet. I bought it and from then on i was hooked with all these designer bags!!! Not so much of a coachie but the coach wallet is what making me addicted to this whole commotion!!!

Oh my goodness..how precious!!! When I go to the retail store...they keep trying to suggest purses for my girls. I told them I plan to wait a few years lol!

Many of us who love coach, like it because of the luxury of treating yourself to something special. I've noticed that some women really have trouble with this concept.

I have one friend in particular that never bought clothes unless they were from goodwill. She never had anything new. After being friends with me for a few years she's changed quite a bit, buys discount clothes (at least they're not used, and also they are relatively stylish), does her hair and carrys either cheap bags or some of my hand-me-downs.

One thing she will not ever buy herself is a really nice bag (or jewelry or clothing item or anything for that manner). She admires my babies constantly, feels the leather and generally fawns all over them, but she will never buy anything somewhat expensive for herself. She makes plenty of money, much more than I do. Unfortunately, for her, I think the main problem is her husband. She's always saying ,"Oh Bill says I have more than enough bags." One time I had found a great deal on a bag for her and she was so excited to get it......next time I see her she says, "Oh Bill made me realize how crazy I was being to spend that much on a purse....I guess I just lost my head there for a few minutes" (the bag was $150 by the way). I've given up on ever trying to find her a bag....it is pointless.

I'm divorced but when I was married, my hubby and I had our own accts for stuff we wanted, and a joint acct to pay the bills. I bought whatever I wanted with my money, and hubby bought things he wanted with his money. I know every marriage is different, but this woman actually makes more money than her husband and she just gives it all to him and she has to beg to buy anything. Screw that.........I really wish she would grow a pair and stand up to him (sigh).

So anyway point still is, some women have trouble treating themselves,.....for various reasons :(

My convert Coachie is a sweet co-worker friend of mine.

She loves being "girly". My office is very casual, but there she is...hair, make-up, dress and (barely able to walk in) heels.

The poor dear carried the same big 'ole canvas tote bag every day. I just had to swoop in and help her out.

I change bags every to every other day. She always comments on them. "Ooooh that's so nice." and "Can I try it on?"

One day I loaded up a huge paper shopping bag with handbags that had sadly fallen out of rotation. I brought them to the office and told her she could have whatever she wanted....

and a Coachie was born!

If I come in wearing a bag she loves, she asks me to pick her up one.

When referring to me to her husband, she calls me her "pusher". (Although my guess is, he's sorry I ever brought that paper bag to work)

It's funny though...no one in my entire family has the fever. I just don't get it and they sure don't "get" me. LOL

I totally understand. My sister gives me weird looks if I even talk about purses and my mom got her purses from goodwill until I got her a preloved coach for her to use. She didn't catch any of the fever though:p.

My mom dresses stylishly. She's tall and slender and 51. I aspire to be like her in 20 years.

BUT she prefers Kohl's purses! She chooses pretty ones, but they don't last. She spends $100 each year ($50 summer, $50 winter) on bags that fall apart.

I finally got her into the Coach Outlet two winters ago. She bought a black and white siggy PVC Chelsea MFF tote for $67. I was so happy for her. She carried that bag every day for 18 months. Every single day. Then I sold it for her on ebay for $79 used. I was so excited to give her $67 (after ebay fees) back and tell her how she had a "free" Coach purse for 18 months. I was excited. She was ho-hum. She took that money to Kohls, bought another cheap purse and blouse.

She will never be a Coachie.

but my daughters are. So much that I'd rather not take them with me to the outlet because they like everything. Try going to the outlet with three of yourselves and only one bank account. Time for a sitter!

This thread reminds me of the fact that my MIL has two or three coach bags, all bought at the outlet, and rages at my dh because I have so many bags. I think shes a closet coachie. I know she likes my bags but she always gets this look on her face like she has to hate them. Maybe its because they're all fp deletes or she thinks I buy a new bag every week or something but its annoying how she acts. I will make her a coachie, an all out loud and proud coachie. Its my mission now to get her to stop being so evil.
