Thanks, the wallet is not Coach but it is well-made and I didn't have any exotic leather items (if eel skin is considered exotic?!)

That bag looks awesome!!!!!!You did a great job and if the stitching is on the front side it looks great zooming in on your pictures. Curious how much the repair total was.
Soooo one more down and sooo many more to save.![]()
Thanks! I had the cobbler repair the stitching on both straps because the other side looked like it might also separate. He charged $20 total but he did a really nice job. He removed the piping, replaced the stitching underneath, and then reattached the piping.
.
That is a fair price especially for both sides and the piping issue.
What was the leather conditioning that you used??
Once again, another amazing job!![]()
A few weeks ago I won a burgandy "Bonnie Cashin for Meyers" hippie on ebay for $13.48 plus $9 S&H. Dem Ram kindly authenticated it and told me that the bag was from the mid 1970's after Bonnie Cashin left Coach. She also advised me that she had once given a bath to a Cashin for Meyers bag and the leather dried out and cracked and she had to throw it away!
After the bag arrived, I tried surface cleaning it but soon realized that it was much dirtier than it appeared in the auction pics. Also, the bag had a very unpleasant odor (that had not been mentioned in the auction!) I tried various methods to improve the smell but soon recognized that the bag had suffered mildew during it's life and the smell wasn't going to go away easily!
There was no way that I was going to wear a nasty, dirty, smelly bag so I decided to wash it. Not only that, I even treated the inside of the bag with a dilute bleach solution to kill the mildew! But I am so glad that Dem Ram warned me about the potential leather drying problem because I took extra caution to avoid letting it dry out too quickly. After washing it, I turned it inside out and stuffed it with towels to slow down the drying process.
Beebpurse had recommended visiting a local riding shop where I found a leather therapy product. After I removed the towels and turned the bag right side out I applied the therapy oil regularly during the drying process. The bag came out beautifully clean, soft and supple. Best of all it smells great!
The auction had revealed that the stitching on one of the straps had partially separated where it attached to the bag. After cleaning and moisturizing the bag I took it to a cobbler and had the strap repaired. I just picked it up tonight and it looks perfect!
Here are some before pics, I will post after and modeling pics attached to subsequent messages. I hope you like my new (old!) bag as much as I do!![]()
