Cartier return

I would recommend keeping it as previously stated, and as others have mentioned here. If it is simply an issue of length and nothing else, you have a solution.

As an aside, I'm actually kind of surprised that CS is fighting you on this because, no offense, but this is not exactly an expensive piece for Cartier.

By the very nature of this necklace, the chain simply being attached there the way that it is will scratch the circular pendant. It could have easily happened during shipment as the necklace will move around inside the box. In this case, I'm kind of inclined to escalate this with Cartier. Of course, it will be scratched. Doesn't mean it's the customer who put the scratches there.

thanks, you are very kind and helpful! I will wait for their response.

I don’t understand the rather harsh comments; it sounds to me that the OP tried on the necklace twice, wore it briefly to see if she liked it, and then decided against it. I don’t see how it’s any different from the boutique.
I’ve ordered online, three times. I’m always shocked that the creations are not protected. There’s no seal, no stickers, no tag. Even VCA sends theirs with a loosely tied tag (that they say can’t be removed for a return but it’s so easy to take on and off).

last month, I ordered a cuff, tried it on and realized that the size was off and looked terrible. I tried it three times and was anxious about putting it back in the box without any scratches. I never received an email back for the RAN and I’m glad I was too anxious and just called the next day, but I understand the week delay if you were waiting for CS to get back to you.

I’m sorry, OP, that’s so unfortunate.

IMO there are differences between the fact pattern quoted above, which is closer to @scheurin (a quick check for size and aesthetics by mail if one cannot go to the boutique). In fact, if I were to do a mail order and return, assuming I could not get to a boutique, I would handle it exactly in the fashion you describe. I would also call the next day if I did not receive a return authorization.

OP asked for opinions regarding whether Cartiers refusal to accept a return was normal under specific circumstances which she laid out in her initial post, stating that she had not received this response from other brands. OP originally stated she wore the item twice at home;kept it for a week; and, ultimately decided on the purchase of a different necklace. I believe that she genuinely doesn’t see any issue with wearing or testing it out, or trying on at home, so long as she cannot see discernable wear and tear. She also explains that she is very careful with her jewelry.

Thread replies expressed vastly differing opinions as to the substantive issues of a return or it’s acceptance given that the boutique has discerned the effects of subsequent wear and tear. I differ from several on this thread, in that even if there are no scratches, JMO I see issues with this practice generally.

The line between wear and try on can be one of semantics, but I feel the OPs usage falls closer to wear followed by a delayed return for buyers remorse. I define buyers remorse as regret of a purchase, not due to manufacture or design defect, but due to reasons evident from the time of the transaction. As I have typed thread responses, I do remember a poll that OP ran regarding this necklace and the Bulgari one I believe she may have also purchased at the time where the length and depth of the piece was discussed. This is solely my opinion and of course people are free to disagree or do as they like.

I think my long posts are more inclined to cause boredom; however, I apologize for causing offense. :flowers: i do agree with @jenaywins that Cartier may very well find it easiest to process a return

I would ask to speak to a manager not only can you not return the piece that’s too short on you but they want you to pay $190 to polish it and then keep it still??? This is absurd. Just to clarify was this a online purchase? The scratches could have happened during shipping (UPS,FedEx) the item back. This is horrible customer service I would be adamant and complain I mean you should be completely happy with your purchase and also it took 3 weeks to process the return?! Clearly you would like to purchase something else from them but from this experience it’s a total let down

Yes that’s an online order. They want $190 to polish then send it back to me. The lady asked why I returned it and I said it was too short, she asked if I’m interested in a bigger model of the love necklace and I said no I just want to do return. So she offered $190 for polishing.
I returned the item through fedex Overnight on dec 18, didn’t get any feed back from them till Jan 10 when I started calling them and learnt about the scratches.

I would contact a higher up. If you only tried it on a few times to see if you liked it and you are sure you didn't scratch it then I would absolutely fight them on this. How would you know if you liked it without trying it on, that's absurd to be expected to see it in a box (or a display case in store) and know you like it on you?!?!?!
Now, if you wore it out or with other necklaces and think maybe you may have scratched it then I would keep it.
Good luck!

Be adamant that you want to return for full refund all the appropriate tags were still attached and you shipped everything back. It was a online order you never had a chance to try on in store and you want your money back talk to higher up and they will accommodate for you. It seems to me the person you spoke with wants to keep the “sale” since she said do you want to purchase a different piece then when you said no she said ok we can’t return. Totally shocking to me sad you had to experience that hopefully it works out ❤️

I would think even just wearing it once causes it to be "used" and who wants to buy such a piece of jewelry at full price? I wonder why anyone just thinks there is the option of a return? :amazed:

Yes, very true. whether we like it or not, they have these policies for a reason. No shade toward OP, I’m not saying that you’re this type of person, but some people buy a piece with the intention of wearing it for a wedding or specific event just to return it a few days or a week later. This is why they say they have a “no return” policy if the item is taken out of the store and/or scratched/showing signs of wear.

For me personally, this is a reminder to be intentional about my luxury purchases because I don’t want to deal with such a headache going back and fourth with Cartier about a return. It is a lot of money after all and at that price point you want to feel completely satisfied with your purchase.

OP, I’m glad that this has been resolved and you received your refund!!
