Maybe, does Australia list prices with Vat?
Australia lists prices with GST (Goods & Services Tax: 10%)

I actually feel like the price increase this time around was quite reasonable. Some items (eg. Trinity line) only went up by $10-$20, and the other items (eg. LOVE/JUC) only went up by $100 so if you were unable to beat the price increase, it’s not that bad :)

In general, luxury goods always cost more in Australia (eg. LV, VCA) :(

I wish I knew the answer to that question but I don’t

All I know is that, even after currency conversion, we still pay more than other countries

Not an Aussie although I have family who live there, and I have been there and things are very expensive there as opposed to the USA.
I know cost of living is much higher there, but Aussies are also paid more on average for similar jobs in the US, and shipping to Australia is an insane amount compared to shipping items elsewhere in the world.

Here is a good article that might explain a few reasons why in case you are interested:

Some key points:
"But part of the reason that Australians pay higher prices on retail goods can be explained by our distance from the rest of the world, Mr Eslake said.

Transport costs, and the need to stock greater quantities of products in case they run out, are both factors that drive up the price of cosmetics, colognes and many other foreign-made products."

"The comparatively high hourly rates paid to Australian workers is another reason why we pay higher prices than elsewhere."

Anyway, I don't want to get too off-topic, but perhaps these are reasons why Cartier is so expensive there.
