Thank you all for your response. I went to the Costa Mesa biotique and they did it while I waited. I was able to get a heart symbol my first name and the year I bought it 2019. I wasn’t able to get the quote I wanted but they said I could do that on a watch.
Yes I like the personal touch as well.

We're engraving twins! South Coast is also where I had mine engraved about a month ago. They had just gotten the machine and the SA was excited that they now could engrave on site. I purchased the Love, told them what I wanted it to say, went for a walk around the mall and picked it up in about an hour. Sure beats waiting a week or two and having to make a trip back to the store. Congrats on your new addition!!

We had the head of my Wife's Clou engraved with a heart and the first letter of our last name. Understandably not from the Love collection but reposting since this is specifically a discussion on engraving.

I LOVE the idea of the initial on the JUC especially with it encased in a heart!

Princess Beatrice also did the same thing:

As for me, I'm so excited - I'm finally going to be in a city with a Cartier boutique for the upcoming holiday, and I scheduled an appt. to have my 4 diamond Love engraved (I might also consider my small Love engraved as well).

I think engraving varies per boutique. This specific boutique told me I could get 8 letters engraved on my size 16 Love, and that spaces don't count as letters (this info differs greatly from what you can do online as online only allows 4 letters and spaces count as letters - go figure with what you can do with 4 letters engraving!).

They also told me that engraving is always complimentary, and there's no time frame for engraving. This also differs greatly from some posts stating you can only engrave complimentary from a certain time frame of purchase. Also, they stated they will do it onsite unless they are unable to for something intricate then they will send it to NYC. I also requested they do the complimentary SHINE Treatment on my Loves while I am there.

I will post if this engraving info differs from what I was told on the phone.

I had my Cartier appt. today. As it turns out, my Service Advisor told me they no longer do the engraving onsite at this boutique (funny and strange how only a few days ago on the phone the person I spoke to did not know this info!).

At any rate, they will be sending both my bracelets off to NYC. My service advisor stated I had 3 areas on the 4 Diamond Love bracelet in which I could use for engraving so I chose to use all 3 areas with two different options in case everything I wanted would not fit (essentially they will engrave two areas on the inner portion of one side of the bracelet and another area on the other piece of the bracelet).

On my other small Love, I was told I have a lot of space for almost any engraving, but I opted for only my husband’s name surrounded by hearts on both sides.

Engraving will take around 2 weeks, and he stated they will also do something between a shine & Polish treatment - like a deeper shine as well as a cleaning. He assured me it would not change the shape or aesthetics of the bracelet.

I'm wondering if they found the quality of the onsite engraving to be variable. When they did mine in store, they messed up the engraving on it and had to start over with a new one! That's got to cost them a few bucks, even if they can melt it down and re cast. They had to correct my paperwork so I had the correct serial number of the replacement. This type of thing may have been happening too often and they decided to take it back to NYC to the pros.

I was told in the store by a SA that Cartier did a realignment on after sale service. Engraving was originally complimentary for something like a month or two after purchase. They changed it to no time limit, but they tightened up on other 'free' services. One of those was rhodium plating on a non diamond piece. Apparently there was a time they'd do it at no charge, now they won't. As they say, 'There's no free lunch'!

I FINALLY got my Loves back today! It took nearly 2.5 weeks from the time I dropped the items off at the boutique and then to have the work completed in NY and sent back to my home from the original boutique.

I would highly recommend the SCRIPT engraving over the BOLD. I think script looks better and is more romantic.
Cartier does a BEAUTIFUL job on their script writing and numbers. My only recommendation is that you may want to leave out any actual hearts. I got some hearts and they DO NOT lean with the script, which I think would look better.

I have had engraving done by Tiffany's, and although I think Cartier's engraving is better overall as it has more flair (i.e. look at the number "2"!), the HEART that I had done on my engraving at Tiffany's was better because it leaned towards the right a little bit along with the rest of the script. Additionally, Tiffany's HEART was better looking shape-wise.

Also, the "deeper shine" that the SA stated they would do made my Loves look like new again! He also enclosed two cleaning kits for me and each bracelet came back with travel pouches with the pillow and wrapped in plastic (shown below).

Here's a pic of the script in numbers:

The engraving looks perfect

Thank you! I am very pleased and happy I got it done. I find myself pushing my bracelets up ever so often just to get a glimpse of the engraving! Script truly is the way to go!

The horizontal hearts don't even bother me that much anymore (LOL!), and from other Cartier engraving that I have seen, it seems that is just the way they do it.

@GucciGoneWild Do it! Cartier's script/cursive writing is so beautiful and has such flair. I'm told by a member, @avcbob, that he believes the font is called 'Transit' from old buses and trains! I love that concept! In the future, instead of a heart symbol, I'm thinking of the ampersand (&) symbol, which can take on so many different designs - I bet they would make that so BEAUTIFUL! Just a little hidden message underneath the gold!

Sorry to bring this thread back from the read but I was wondering if you guys know what other service they do when you get your bracelet engraved. I’m worried that mine was polished (removed some gold) after the engraving …even though my SA said it was not and that it was only cleaned. Just want to double check. Thank you!

When I got mine engraved and sent off to NYC, I specifically told the After-Sales Advisor I did not want it polished but only wanted one apparent scuff buffed away. He said they would do a “deep shine”.

When I got them back, I could see they did buff the scuff away on my 4 diamond classic which I was glad, and it appeared they did not do anything else as I could see the fine hairline (natural) wear and tear. However, there was this strange residue on my classic which I had to wash away. My small Love looked untouched as I could still identify all the previous wear and tear marks.

My personal experience and opinion and from reading on the forum is when they send them off, it’s hard to determine if they will take it upon themselves to shine or polish the item after the engraving. The only thing to do is to stress to them not to polish, but even then there aren’t any guarantees.

If you are not recognizing any of the familiar marks or scratches on your bracelet, then they probably polished it.

My next piece I’m getting engraved before taking it home so it will be apparent that it’s new and would not need a shine or polish.

Thank you! Yes, one SA told me that they buff/polish it whenever it’s engraved. She also said that it doesn’t matter if it’s new or not, they will do it bc they need to clean it after the engraving due to loose metal shavings, dirt, etc that happens in the process. My original SA said that they just cleaned it. Either way, I can tell the difference. Idk if my eyes are just that good… it’s not significant but I could tell. I’ve made my peace w it though bc I much rather have the engraving and have them polished than not have it engraved at all.
