Carrying "Out of trend" designer bags

I'm always fascinated by this topic. I definitely think there are bags that scream certain period. However, I think that the ensemble makes the bag most of the time. The most "timeless bag" can look silly with a sloppy outfit. I also think it's really boring to never try out a trend - I am different from the girl I was in my 20s, and as I approach 40, I appreciate the changes that my 30s brought to me. I also like that I had age appropriate clothing and bags. It's fun. Then again, I've never looked at a bag as a lifelong purchase. I do not look as very many things as life long purchases.

A vintage bag can look like something out of a fashion spread if pieced together properly. A bag alone doesn't make someone stylish. So if there are some bags that you like, find something cool to pair them with and make your own trend!

Carrying "out-of-trend" but classy-looking bags is fine with me. I have such kind of bags (thus my TPF username :)) and I am happy & proud using them as I do not bump into someone carrying the same bag.

The bigger question is, will you feel good carrying it, or will you feel dated carrying your mum's bag?

Do you know the names of these bags? Care to post pictures? I carry a mix of new and vintage bags. Some bags are timeless, but It's fun to try a trend that doesn't break the bank too.

I sell bags I don't use. I don't have enough space to store things that someone else out there can use and appreciate.

I wear my Chloe Paddy/Bay, my Gucci Horse-bit Chains, MJ Blake, Chanel backpack, Sonia Rykiel Domino, Dior Saddle  etc with PRIDE

If people don't like them they can always avert their eyes :sunnies

Love this post! :D

I still wear my Balenciaga day bags with pride and they are not even making them anymore.

It bags come and go. If you like any of the colors, shapes or styles of the bags then wear them with pride. :smile1:

I believe you should continue to wear and use whatever bags you like regardless of trends. It if reflects your personality and style then keep them. Also, trends in fashion are always reappearing.. so a particular vintage bag can look amazing with a great outfit.

OP, would you consider sharing pictures of some/all the bags in question?

I am simply curious what bags you are talking about. Plus, I love seeing bags :p

That being said, I honestly agree with the majority here. Keep what you (or your mom) love and will use, sell what can be sold and/or donate to charity. Someone else might love to have the pieces.

Good luck!

Like I said in my above post, I still love my Balenciaga Day bags and carry them all the time. I just want to add that the Day style was never the "It bag" Balenciaga style, the City was. But I never liked the way the City kept slipping off my shoulders, and loved the easy hobo style of the Day. Sometimes "It" bags are neither comfortable or practical and non-it bags do the job better (for me). It's all about what YOU like, not what some fashion editor likes. :supacool:

Yes! I still love my decade plus bags more than current bags in many cases. Funny enough, some of the trends (Prada fringe) are hot again - I see a number of fringe bags this year by other designers. Not to mention many old bags are better made than current bags. I was totally obsessed with the Dior Cannage bucket style tote a few years back - I have 3 of them - and for my lifestyle (in a plane often for work) it's the most useful bag I own. :)

I stopped paying attention to fashion trends in the late 80s while in college. They just got too 'out there.' Now my personal style gravitates to the classics. Being on-trend can get expensive in a hurry!

As far as carrying out-of-trend bags, it all depends on how wearing them makes you feel.
