Thanks for all answers!

Maybe it's a good idea not to buy it.. my other rings are quite beautiful and 10k is pretty much money.

I absolutely love my two rings but do you think they will be out of fashion some day?

Do you know if such high-quality jewelry (such as those rings or other jewelry made of 18k gold, platinum..) lasts a lifetime or will it lose its shine??
They will, but you will have to keep them clean and get them polished from time to time.

Fashion is, first, subjective. And second, cyclical. They might rotate out of fashion, sure, but theyll come back. What matters is that you love them and will wear them regardless.

I think the concensus is really that it's not a worthy way to spend the money. I would KILL to have $10,000 in the bank. Life will soon get in the way of these kinds of things, and you will be much happier knowing you have this money, than with a ring. You will want a nice place, in a safe neighborhood, and some nice furnishings for that place, and a nice safe car. The rich don't stay rich buying things, they stay rich by not buying these things. You want to be able to have the freedom and flexibility later, so you have to hold back on all of your wants now. It WILL be worth it.

Thought that does assume the world doesn't end next December.

;) You're right!

How often shall I have it cleaned??

Do you think that any jeweller can do this (I don't live near a Tiffany shop..)

I think I won't buy the setting ring. You're right and my other rings are beautiful as well. At least the setting ring isn't MUCH more beautiful than the others! ;)

Not all more more beautiful! These are more arty anyway.

You can clean them at home with a baby toothbrush and some warmwater and dish soap (like dawn) and dry them, that's the best thing to do at home. Then you can get them polished up from time to time eit her through Tiffany (ideal) or any local shop. Just make sure you tell them what metal it is (gold or platinum)

I think I'll go to a local jeweller because the next Tiffany shop is about 3 hours away from my home!!

I actually don't want to clean the rings myself.. I'm afraid of doing anything wrong. Wouldn't it be okay to have them cleaned professionally once a year?

I would do that anyway. But cleaning at home won't do anything wrong, and if you wait a year it will be harder to get the grime off. Diamonds get dirty EASILY, and they like oil. If they are platinum, you can spray a little windex on them before you wash your hands, or you can also spray a little windex on a paper towel and wipe them down after. But if you have white gold, use rubbing alcohol. It really is super easy to clean them. Just get a baby toothbrush, rinse with warm water, scrub a dub real light and rinse.

I do mine at least once a day, outside of regular handwashing! I cannot STAND anything on my rings.

But if you can do yours once a week, they'll be in good shape. hell once a month even! Don't wear them for any sort of handiwork either--cooking, housework, etc--or to shower, sleep in...don't do anything that would do any damage.

No, I'm VERY careful! I want them to be beautiful for the rest of my life and so I cherish them :)

For example, my mum does EVERYTHING with her rings on her fingers.. gardening, showering, sleeping etc. How can she do this?? :D

@ lilmountaingirl

What do you mean??

Yes, I can't believe why my mom doesn't take off her rings from time to time. But her rings look still surprisingly good although they aren't anything special.

How does your mother's ring look like? Battered or still good? ;)
