Hi everybody,

it's me again ;)

As you might know, I am thinking of buying a tiffany setting ring. It's such a classic but it's quite expensive as well.

I either want a 0,75 carat diamond or a 0,9 carat diamond. Both have the same clarity and colour but the 0,75 carat is about 3.000 $ cheaper!!

However, I intend buying this ring once in a lifetime so it should be perfect.

The question is: is there really a noticeable difference between 0,75 and 0,9 carat or do they look about the same size??

Thanks for your help!

Cheers :)

I don't know how old you are but I would assume this is not going to be your last diamond ring. So there is still time for an upgrade. I guess you are no older than in your 30's`?

My MIL is 70+ and recently bought a new pair of - BIGGER - diamond studs. She would never stop upgrading. :smile1:

There is a difference in size, take a look here:
http://www.ajediam.com/Sizes-of-Diamonds.html

Some mighth not notice the difference but I tend to notice even a 0.1 difference.

Most important of all: don't buy online if you can't return it with full refund.
Go and try it on your hand! See which one pleases you more, and then decide.

No, I'm actually 20 ;)

I usually save money for about 2 years to get something more expensive (such as the tiffany setting). I can return it and there would be a refund. The ring costs about 10,000 § which is quite expensive. However, I guess it's an investment for life, isn't it?

It depends on the setting and the way it faces up. I think if you go with one of the halo settings then 0.75 is good. If you go with the classic setting then i like 0.90. Are you shopping from the boutique?

I'd like to buy the classic setting. I'm shopping from the online shop, so it's not possible to try it first. However, if I don't like it, I can send it back to tiffany! Honestly, I don't think that I won't like it.

I'm very curious.. so does anyone have the 0,9 carat setting ring and could show pictures? I'd LOVE to see it!

I would buy a non-tiffany ring from an online vendor here in the states that has an upgrade policy. Goodoldgold.com is one and they've made nice Tiffany-style settings that were pretty close to the real thing.

You cannot get the actual tiffany setting with a non-tiffany stone, but you could get a bigger and probably better quality and cut stone if you skip tiffany.

Goodoldgold.com is definitely reputable and I have purchased many items, including diamonds, from them. They definitely sell real diamonds. There are other online diamond sellers that are great, but my experience with a couple of them was horrible based on how poorly they made the actual ring. The diamonds are always fabulous. Dlaude6 just purchased his fiance's ring from there, he posted for assistance on this forum.

You can also go through Bluenile.com, which is also reputable but they only offer the settings shown on their website, and those are not always very resemblant of actual Tiffany settings.

Is this shop reliable? I'm always afraid of fakes..
Do you have a ring from this shop??

A ring not from Tiffany will not be a Tiffany ring (unless it is estate/vintage).

If you want a Tiffany ring, you have to buy it from Tiffany.

If you want a ring that looks similar but is REAL diamond and platinum, then the vendors suggested by Ame and Swanky will sell you fine jewelry.

Getting a ring that is similar (but not Tiffany) will give you a bigger size diamond for the same amount of money.

What diamond grades were you considering at Tiffany?

I considered a

0,9 carat/ colour F / VS1

diamond. I think that's quite good! I've looked at some other shops (as suggested) and they may have some bigger stones for less money- but the colour is not always good!

What other shops suggested did you look at? Because the ones we mentioned sell all color and clarity ranges.

It sounds like you really do want a Tiffany ring though.

I looked at Goodoldgold.com.

The prices are similar to those from Tiffany (if I chose the same colour and clarity)

I think I'll settle for the Tiffany Setting, it's simply beautiful ;)
