Capucines - Classic or Hype?

Is the Capucines handbags considered a classic or is it just a super hyped handbag? The price has gone up so much since it was first introduced in 2013. I saw it on display at LV boutique and tried on the BB size in black. I didn't think I would like it so much but it's actually very nice and sturdy and the leather is not as delicate as Chanel or Lady Dior. The price has gone up so much, $6750 for a BB size and I'm sure the price will only go on the next price increase so I'm thinking of buying it before that happens but is it worth it? Please let me know your thoughts and experience about this handbag if you have it. Thanks!
I tried one on several times, and it’s a lovely bag, but could never bring myself to buy. To me I don’t think it’s a classic, I do think LV is pushing the heck out of it to try and make it one. For me, I wouldn’t consider it at current price point as it’s almost in H territory and H bags hold up better and certainly retain their value if a B/C/K. I’m biased though - H leather all the way, although I do have a leather NF and love it as a very large tote for when my B’s won’t do. I take my B’s and K everywhere, and I also use shapers to minimize droopiness. I’ve seen some older larger capucines that get weirdly saggy at the bottom, and given the double sides I would think a shaper wouldn’t work well.

‘Bottom line though, if you love it and want it why not? Whether it’s actually a classic may or may not matter to you. For sure it doesn’t hold its value on the secondary market, but that may allow you to find a great deal on one. Prices of all luxury handbags have crossed into the stratosphere at this point, it’s vital to buy what we love and use them. No matter what anyone else thinks, we are the ones we have to please. Good luck with your decision, they are beautiful bags.

It's very much in tradition of LV

Don't have, but I really like the Lockit - however, it's a muck more casual bag. The Capucine is dressier and up-town-glossy, and the logo is kind of out-there but clever. Not sure if it'll be a classic, but all I can say is it's easier to wear a bag that was never 'in', than a bag that was very favoured at one time. If you love, then just go for it.

With the recent price increases LV certainly wants you to think it is. I can totally see what @BULL says about LV’s original intention for this bag when it was first introduced. But I wish LV could stay focused on what would be classic for them which is their canvas pieces. Not that providing beautiful leather options is a bad thing but raising the prices of a bag to say “hey, it’s just as expensive as a Chanel classic flap or almost as pricey as a Birkin and therefore is just as classic” doesn’t mean that it is seen as such by the market. What is classic to LV is their heritage as a luggage producer so being more innovative with trunks is where I think they will score more points. I love the soft trunks and the most recent derivation, the side trunk. I think they need to keep working on a version that doesn’t scratch your hand when you go in and out it that will fit more and be comfortable against the body. I think it’s coming.

I honestly love the Capucines. I think it's a gorgeous style and would love to get the BB in yellow, however, I just can't see spending that much money on a bag. I just think that's too expensive, but that's my personal opinion.

Like others have said, if you love it, then buy it. You're the only one that you need to impress and if you're OK with spending that much money for it, then go for it!

It’s a huge no from me - I stupidly bought a capucines, the clips inside where straps go actually gouged a hole in the leather on one side and marked it all up on the other. I’m now stuck with an almost
$10 000 bag that looks like a piece of Kmart construction. ( I’ve since heard they’ve moved the clips so it’s obviously a fault they were aware of )

OMG that sounds awful. Did you try taking it back to LV to send in for repair?

I guess not many would wear it as an everyday crossbody bag and carry very heavy stuff, I normally wear it on my arm, only use strap if I’m going to use public bathroom. I have no any issues with this bag everything still looks brand new.

I think it‘s both: classic and hype.
Classic because of the Taurillon leather and the design, hype because of the price!
For some women it‘s important to have a high priced bag, because they want to have a special bag, not a common style.
And the resale value isn‘t important!
I buy my bags for me, I buy what I love and I don‘t think about a resale value.
