I was into jewellery ,switched to purses and back to jewellery .you can change the jewellery how many times a day you want and always an investment ,but no one in my house can understand purses .i started with lv ,then hermes and then mulberry .now i stick to diamonds my first love since i was 21.

Yes. Looking back, the purse quest became semi-obsessive and at the end of the day, I prefer to have something that lasts forever, has sentimental meaning which can be passed onto future generations.

I made the switch from purses to watches & then onto yg jewellery but now I have gone back to purses but I think maybe I should go back to jewellery as it last longer & you can wear it every day, where as a purse I get bored with & I am allways switching, welcome to the jewellery forum.

I also think that jewellery is more noticeable and "paid attention to" than purses.

I always thought "diamonds are forever" was a load of BS! But now I can see how that makes sense.... Leather handbags fade, get worn, need to be replaced, go in and out of season (not to mention a lot of name brand quality went to craps! But the prices keep going up! Chanel and LV have increases this week supposedly).... Shoes get worn, get dirty, go in and out of style.... But a nice diamond or gold or platinum piece never does! And actually can keep some value in the end...

But I'm also not completely abandoning ship, I just am more smart with my purse choices. Go for classic pieces that will last! Then save the rest for bling! I agree with contessa, your jewelry grabs more attention than anything else. Especially in big cities where designer purses are a dime a dozen in some areas

Well-said.

I'm finding it really difficult to justify purchasing a handbag these days. There's 1 LV I have my eye on, but then, when I give it some serious consideration, I'd rather spend the $2200 towards a vacation or piece of jewellery kwim??

LV prices are crazy and jumping beyond what I can say is reasonable. When I first got into lv it was $400 for a speedy now it's almost double. I throw in the towel! Haha Same with Chanel. The classic flap is close to $4-5k now and I can't believe I'm saying it buy I don't think it's worth it anymore either. The money for a flap could get me a great DBTY necklace, or a Cartier love bracelet, or send DF and I to Europe or Bora Bora, or a nice watch! Now I'd take the vacation/jewelry route too...

I made the switch too after I got bored with all of the handbags out there and decided it's time to add some nice jewelry to my collection.

I feel the same way.... A handbag doesn't take my breath away like it used to. The styles don't impress me and it all looks the same just in new colors. A little boring and i feel like I've seen it already? And you can only wear one at a time, with jewelry I can pile and stack!

But don't get me wrong, I can still appreciate a nice bag! Just know that it's maybe no longer for me.

Congrats and welcome to the glittery side of tPF!!! I agree with whoops and Contessa - I've been wanting a Chanel Jumbo for a while (am kicking myself I got the trendier ligne cambon flap instead of the Jumbo in 2004) but can't justify the nearly $4k price now. I'd rather spend that on a watch! A mid-size SS balloon bleu is around that price and will last forever. . .can be passed for generations to come and will hold its value more than a leather handbag can.

I will still lust after the Jumbo and other nice bags, but I would just rather spend the money on jewelry/watches/vacay/etc!!

I filled pretty much all of my handbag desires, but my jewelry desires are still unfilled. I've been diamond obsessed recently. I've always loved diamonds, but I have six friends getting married in the next couple of months and I'm single... I have diamond envy. Well, I have relationship envy, but I can't buy myself a husband. I can buy myself a diamond (or two).

A few years ago I bought my first LV purse, the neverfull and everyone was surprised how "cheap" it was - 450 EUR.

A few years ago I had no purses, only backbags! :wtf:
I don't regret a single purse I bought and the Tod's G-bag still makes me smile.
Now that I started buying jewelry I also have my nieces on my mind- they will be very lucky one day :-) Because their auntie got style.

I'm growing out of bags too.
After 3 LV purses and 2 wallets, I think I've enough at the moment, especially after getting my SC bag.

I think jewellery is a better investment.

I got my last desired Hermes bag a month or so ago and, after 10 years of slowly building a versatile and useable collection, I am done. I haven't looked at other bags for years and don't care to. Hermes bags are like jewelry anyway - they last forever!

The money I put into these H bags (none of which I regret for a second) made my jewelry collection lag behind, so now that's where I will be putting my extra $$$. I go the H forum occasionally but have been hanging around here much more!

I might have to come up there and talk some sense into you!!! ;)

I'll always choose baubles over leather........although every girl should own at least one decent horse-riding whip ;) (in leather of course!)

and I must add that this thread has some of the best responses. Love it!
LOL!!! Well...I have the leather riding whip, in fact, I have several!
I'm getting back into jewelry (THANKS, JEWELRY GALS!). Nothing big ticket. Can't afford anymore insurance..........

BTW, Dearheart...are you keeping secrets from your jewelry gals? I smell a gorgeous reveal in the air!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :smooch:

I feel the same way. I have a couple of higher end bags, ie, gucci and LVs, and two from coach and I think that's enough for now. I don't think I'll be needing anymore for a good while. I also bought a pair of louboutins because I felt like I deserve at least one high end pair of shoes. But jewelry is always more justifyable. Shoes get worn out, bags fray, but jewelry lasts forever really, and with it, there is some resale value.
