Buying Hermes from resellers ... by wire transfer

I have paid for an item through wire transfer before. It was with a seller with an online presence and store and also a real store that I was able to phone. I'm from overseas and this seller couldn't confirm my billing address as this is forbidden under privacy laws in Australia so she refused to accept payment by Paypal as I can't be confirmed. I was VERY hesitant to send the money through as there;s no chargeback facility BUT if you are confident in the seller, it's a possibility. Make sure you get as much info about the seller as you can beforehand. Why not ask for a photocopy of their social security number and/or photo ID/drivers license? This way if anything goes wrong you could go straight to the police - and the seller knows it!
Please remember that sellers are people too! I would never give my ss# or copy of driver's license to someone over the internet. Just because we are sellers does not mean that we are immune to identity theft.

I just noticed that the seller of a scarf I'm interested in, who's located in France, accepts only wire transfer. S/he's not on the trusted-reseller list. Any thoughts about wire transfer in these circumstances? The seller's name is sapinvert2006. Thanks, as always, for your sage advice.

BTW, here's the link to the auction itself: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190211984306 A couple of tPFers have already given thumbs-up in the Authenticate thread.

Anybody have any thoughts on this seller/auction using wire transfer? If people think the circumstances look okay, I'd like to add the auction to my snipe group (yes, I've finally joined the Dark Side). :death:
