Buying Hermes from resellers ... by wire transfer

Have never done it and doubt I ever will since it costs me money to send wire trasfer plus I have to go to the bank during workday which is impossible.

Done the wire as my first eBay Birkin purchase and it was perfect. I can't see why not if you buy from a trusted seller and getting a better deal then in the Hermes store?

I would only send a wire from the afore mentioned resellers...that being said...I purchased from CDL...I sent a check directly to the bank...and I got the bag fast. The only fee was small...for a fedex envelope.

I have purchased via wire transfer from sellers that I was 150% sure about. Why? It was simply easier that way. For me. I keep a very tight limit on my c/c and that doesn't cover big ticket items. My experiences with these sellers - who are tried and tested and have a 150% waterproof track record in doing good business - have been fine. I would never do it with someone who I wasn't sure about.
Likewise, as a seller (which I am not), I would have a very hard time accepting paypal from a buyer I don't know because I would be afraid of chargebacks on such big ticket items.

I wanted to chime in on the reasons some of us sellers insist on wire transfers. For me the paypal fees are not the reason - although they are high. Personally, I don't think it's fair that buyers complain about a $30 wire fee, when paypal fees for a high ticket item are exponential in comparison.
Paypal never protects the seller 100%. I once had an unfounded chargeback and despite providing proof of delivery, and never getting the item back, I lost the purchase price and got hit with a chargeback fee. Paypal does not have that much power against the cc companies, and in a virtual world it is hard to proove who is right and who is wrong in these situations. This said, I understand those who do not want to do wire transfers, and I hope that they can try to understand why sellers don't accept Paypal. I think one should do what they feel comfortable with. The bottom line is that Paypal is not great protection for anyone - their buyer protection is only up to $500. Please understand where sellers are coming from and don't judge them as shady because of payment rules. My advice is to judge by feedback and what people say on this forum. Payment method is different part of the equation, some people like credit cards because they don't have to have all the cash ready at once.

I totally agree with Luxwear, sadly sellers have to protect their interests (ie. payments/merchandise/reputation) as well as buyers.

I too, have been the unfortunate victim of a fraudelent chargeback many moons ago and like Luxwear, despite proof of delivery, emails from the buyer congratulating me on what a wonderful bag (it was an LV) and even leaving glowing feedback, the buyer still thought they would get *double-bubble* and attempt a fraudelent chargeback. PayPal are pretty hopeless at the best of times and in the event of a PayPal chargeback are also helpless as the cc company, once notified, immediately reverses the money .... then a seller/buyer is locked in a tug-of-words with PayPal as to which way PayPal will rule.

I have also initiated a chargeback once for an item I never received and where the seller refused personally to refund the monies. Whilst PayPal put the wheels in motion, they actually never did a thing and 25 days later (PayPals cut off period for a resolution and having received no communication from them or responses to my chase-ups) I filed with my cc company anyway and they immediately investigated and found in my favour. I then got a great mail from PayPal asking me for my views in a survey on their service (my sides split laughing at that one!).

As Luxwear mentions, it is not always or even just a matter of the charges, although somewhere down the line those charges have to be covered so it could mean a buyer paying even more.

As a buyer as well as seller, I am all too aware that whilst PayPal will be charging a seller exhorbitant fees at their end, the buyer is also paying a hugely inflated currency conversion if an international sale. I discovered on a recent purchase that PayPal had charged an additional c. USD 250.00 on a fairly low transaction more than my cc were actually charging. I happened to call my cc to advise them of a planned transaction and they told me it equated to XXX, when I said ... well actually paypal are showing XXXXXXX, they claimed that was PayPals charge!!!:cursing::cursing: this is in addition to whatever outrageous charges they landed on the seller.

The opportunity for a fraudelent chargeback is rife. A buyer claims either not to have received their goods, or goods not as described and the potential for a buyer to return a used/damaged or even fake item in its place is just unacceptable to any reputable reseller.

Depending on where you are located and your banks infrastructure, you can even arrange a wire transfer over the phones these days.

As with the others, I would personally only pay via wire transfer with sellers I trust and I have done so several times without hesitation.

I have bought several bags from ebay via wire transfer and never had any problems. These sellers were very friendly, co-operative and trustable. I can recommend them all and you should have no worries! Sellers I have bought from: *beatrice*, jemznjewels, luxury-zurich, luxwear, CDL and mightykismet.

Good luck with your purchase!

I have paid for an item through wire transfer before. It was with a seller with an online presence and store and also a real store that I was able to phone. I'm from overseas and this seller couldn't confirm my billing address as this is forbidden under privacy laws in Australia so she refused to accept payment by Paypal as I can't be confirmed. I was VERY hesitant to send the money through as there;s no chargeback facility BUT if you are confident in the seller, it's a possibility. Make sure you get as much info about the seller as you can beforehand. Why not ask for a photocopy of their social security number and/or photo ID/drivers license? This way if anything goes wrong you could go straight to the police - and the seller knows it!

Same here.

I thought I would chime in too as a new Birkin owner!!! I just purchased my very first birkin from Flossy Figaro and it was a wonderful experience. I was really nervous at first to wire this kind of money, but I did my research and obviously Flossy's reputation is wonderful. I received the Birkin last week and it was packaged impeccably. Flossy also communicates constantly and is a sweetheart. Only praise for this transaction!!!!
