Regarding wire transfers, I know that if this question was posted on the general ebay forum, everyone would say that it is not a safe way to pay.

There are those who say that wire transfers are ok for trusted sellers, but there are others who say that it is not ok under any circumstances.

I HAVE noticed that for Hermes puchases, it seems more standard to see wire transfer as a required method of payment - as opposed to, say, paypal. As I am looking to complete a transaction myself, I am wondering how safe this actually is.

Can I ask, "Who have you purchased from, via wire transfer, without any difficulties?"
Who to trust? What do you Hermes ladies think?

Thanks!

It's not as cut and dry as simply saying don't do it as most legitimate Birkin resellers on eBay won't accept Paypal for such a high value as they have no protection.

You need to ensure you are buying from a well known and well trusted seller

I have wire transferred to reputable eBay sellers before. The thing is, these sellers are in the business of selling authentic hermes goods. They need to profit from these sales, and eBay and PayPal fees are simply outrageous and cut straight into operating margins.

You can try to do personal check, but they take a long time to clear. Wires are done in the mornings, and they clear in the afternoon, making it easy for sellers to ship in the afternoon or the next morning. If the seller you're dealing with doesn't have a whole business revolved around selling Hermes items, I would hesitate. Here are a few eBay sellers my friends and myself have dealt with personally. I hope your seller is on this list. If not, ask if they will accept credit card. But cards have fees too.

Thing is. If both parties don't extend trust, no business deals can ever be made.

I've bought 5 birkins off of ebay, but never through wire transfer.
You can contact the reputable sellers and ask about Paypal. I've always found that they're usually willing to accept paypal if I ask for it as part of the negotiation process.
Even with a reputable seller, I wouldn't do wire transfer on a "normal" birkin. I could understand it for an exotic, but not for any of the regular leathers.

I should mention, though, that I'm using echeck through paypal right now for a layaway plan on a birkin. But I still negotiated that from the original request for wire transfer.

The person who's transferring gets charged quite a fee, and in my case, since everyone at the bank knows me, everyone notices the purchase and talks about it. So there are ALL KINDS of reasons not to use wire transfer, IMHO! :smartass:

Don't do it. Ever.

I don't do it. Ever. That is my opinion and I am entitled to it last time I checked.

If you are an experienced buyer on ebay then it is your choice. I have found that sellers who know me will take my paypal and don't force me to wire transfer.

Let's hope this won't be the new question on the authenticate thread..."Is this an authentic bag and should I send the seller a wire transfer?"

i dont agree that one should never wire the money. wire is incredibly easy and very safe as well as low cost IF you know your buyer. I buy and sell frequently using wire almost exclusively.

I agree that it is great for the seller. You know you have your funds. My bank charges $40 for domestic transfer and $65 for out of US and you have to go by their conversion rate which is never an advantage. I hardly think those are cheap fees. It also means a trip to the bank during working hours.

Whatever works and makes you happy is the way to go:flowers:

The seller I am dealing with is on the list.
I was just wondering because you still have people who warn against it even with reputable sellers. I was just seeking more information before I actually decide to go to the bank.

I have sent bank wires to Sandiaexchange and Hermes** and nyfashionexpert. All was perfect. I wouldn't hesitate to send wires to objets_intemporels, luxury-sales, bluemaxantiques, flossyfigaro, fleuresetcarlines, creatures*de*luxe and many others.

I have had people ask me to accept a bank wire instead of PP when selling. Both times were perfect also.

Personally, I would feel comfortable sending a wire transfer to any of those sellers, Leema. I would definitely go to a different branch of my bank to do it though, we have small town syndrome here, too! But that would be my only reservation.

I have sold 2 Birkins and taken wire transfers only. It was incredibly easy and seamless. Granted this was in the stone ages. I am not an established seller and probably would have a difficult time trying to do the same thing now. I would have no problem wiring money to a reseller I knew (but that is only a very small number; I wouldn't just wire to anyone on our "list"). But that is just my opinion.
