The watchforums hold true, I have never paid full retail on a watch. I would check out WUS(watchuseek) and other websites for information on watches and competent dealers.

Just reject his offer, search other dealers in your area and keep shopping until someone sells it at the normal discounted price.

Thanks for the confirmation, Christofle! I was completely offended at the 7%. Maybe they thought I wasn't a serious buyer or did any of my homework because I'm a woman. At any rate, there's only one other AD in my area. Sadly I'm not exactly in a good position to bargain when they both know I don't have other options for another 500 miles. Guess I'll have to wait until I travel, or bite the bullet and buy from....Costco?

You should look online at some legitimate greymarket dealers such as prestigetime and figure out what the going price is and then make a counteroffer with your AD. Thats what I ended up doing for one of my watches since they were the only dealer in nearly all of Canada. They were trying to sell it to me for 5% off of 6800 but online it was 5400 so I asked for that price. It might be easier to demand a price with a reference rather than demanding a percentage off.

Ah, thanks. I will try that! I hope I have better luck with the second AD. Something tells me they're going to meet my printout of the online store's listed price with, "You never know if you're getting the real thing when you buy online." Will report back! Merci, Christofle!

And yeah - if anyone has an answer to my earlier question about the 10% still being honored on a Cartier watch for signing up for a store card, let me know. My local one won't do it...just wondering if it varies by SA and by store.

Well you can always say that one store offered you 7%, and ask them if they can beat it with say 15%?
