^^^:wtf:What??? You are supposed to read auctions? Really? Doesn't that ruin the mystery and surprise?
Ha, I wish someone would tell me buyers that! :bagslap:

I know - right? Actually reading the auction terms and conditions would certainly ruin all the fun! LOL.

You know I actually add this line to the end of all my auctions: "Please carefully read the following terms & conditions of this auction. By bidding on this item, you are entering into a legally binding contract. Your bid is your acknowledgment that you have read and agreed to the following ..."

Then I lay out everything from shipping methods & costs to my return policy and on and on and on. Sometimes I feel like the terms are longer than the item description! :smile1:

Not that it helps. No one reads it anyway!!

No problem! :flowers:
I do think it's possible that he may have been, wrongly, led to believe (by other sellers' actions) that marking down the price of items on customs forms is common practice; but he should have made sure of his facts before accusing you.

I suspect that you're right and that his past experience has led him to believe that it is, in fact, customary to mark down the value of the items prior to shipping. I very much appreciate your kind words & I think this experience has taught me that I need to be absolutely crystal clear in my shipping policies - which is easy enough to do with a best offer. I will just be sure to spell absolutely everything out before I accept the offer. Oh and I guess I'll have to hope for the best as I wait for the resolution of this particular situation. Thanks again for your post! :smile1:

In Canada, its $20.00 ($60.00 for a gift) which really sucks except that it is often overlooked. You go Choo_girl. You are 100% in the right. I can't believe the buyer was so combative about it.

Yikes! Only $20 & $60 for a gift? I wonder what it is when buying something ex-US and having it shipped here. I've never checked into that.

Thanks for your kinds words & your support. If only I could be right AND still have my sale!

Hang in there ChooGirl!!! That buyer is totally in the wrong.

Yeah, it's $1000 here in Australia - it was about €25 or €40 (can't remember which one) when I was living in Holland.

Thanks for your post! I'm hoping my package makes it back to me and I'll find a more reasonable seller for my item when I can finally relist (after eBay lifts my ridiculous selling restriction).

I have a buying AND sep. selling ID, and my sellers ID has 2 neg's I received from retaliatory sellers who were called out on issues and decided to neg me back (as a buyer).

This is exactly why if I've had issues with a seller, or if they've been rude in any way, I block them from my auctions right away. I worry about a seller doing this, and it seems it happens!

Oh it definitely happens - and what bothers me the most is that the buyers have all the power, because we, as sellers can't leave negative feedback. I really think that I should be allowed to leave this buyer a negative - just a factual statement saying buyer refused packaged b/c he did not wish to pay customs fees. But "to protect buyers", *Bay won't let me do this. So who's going to protect sellers from this guy? What's to say he won't go and buy another Chanel agenda from some other unsuspecting seller and then do the same thing again?

As it is, my agenda is stuck somewhere in London. Who knows when it will come back to me! Oh & you raise an excellent point about banning buyers that create these unfortunate situations. I banned him from my upcoming auctions as soon as I read your post. Now if *bay will just lift my selling restrictions, perhaps he'll feel the pain of my ban LOL.

any news???? do i need to get a posse together yet:nuts: lol...i have about £5 in 1p and £ in 2p.......what was the bill again, dont want to break the piggy bank yet he he xxx

Well, it doesn't look like my buyer will be paying the charge any time soon! In fact, I haven't heard from him at all since the last message I posted here. He hasn't filed a complaint with *bay or PayPal against me as far as I can tell, though, and also no negative feedback just yet.

I did get a very nice email from the folks at Parcel Force. I emailed them to see when I'd get my package back. Their reply was quite pleasant, although not at all helpful (they apologized for the inconvenience and said they sent another letter to the recipient asking for their payment). No mention from them as to when or if I'll get my package back. I'll give them this - they might charge a fortune for customs fees, and they might do a terrible job with delivery, but they do write a darn nice email :smile1:

So keep the posse on hold for now, but keep 'em ready. Once that neg feedback comes through - you'll have to go get him for me!!

I'll keep you posted & thanks!!

Please do keep us posted on how things go. It makes me so mad when people don't follow the rules and ruin things for other genuine buyers and sellers. I really hope this guy doesn't give you any more trouble and you get your package back...Parcel Force service is very up and down, but I honestly haven't had any problems with them and I order internationally all the time. I guess it's down to good communication between both parties and being fair and considerate. You have been more than generous with helping this guy, so I hope it all works out for you.:flowers:

Thanks for your post! You know it's funny about Parcel Force - I know lots of UK buyers have trouble with them, but they're just so darn pleasant on the phone and over email. Honestly, the guy who emailed me kept apologizing to me because my buyer won't come pick up his package. That's pretty funny to me, given that my buyer never so much as acknowledged that he's done anything even slightly wrong. Hey - at least Parcel Force is on my side. LOL. I'll let you know how it all turns out.

You've done all the right things choogirl! I'm glad you already contacted paypal and ebay so they will be on your side in any case.

Thank you! I have to say, if I've done all the right things it's because people like you have been so generous with their time and have given me fantastic advice through this thread! I really appreciate your post. I will let you know how things turn out. Hopefully *bay & PayPal will be on my side - it seems logical enough, but as an earlier TPF'r said - logic and PayPal definitely don't go hand in hand!!

Hi all - OP here (again). I hate to beat a dead horse, but I'm wondering if anyone knows how long ParcelForce will hold the unclaimed package before sending it back to me. I've tried calling them (no reply) and emailing them (have received several incredibly polite emails back - none of which answer my question). The Parcel Force folks keep telling me that they've notified the recipient that the parcel is ready for p/u. That's great and all, except he's never going to pick it up!!!

Anyone know how long PF will hold the package before returning it to sender? Anyway I can get the item shipped back to me sooner?

Unfortunately you're in a bad situation. Could you agree to refund him a bit of the cost - say $20 - on the condition that he leaves you positive feedback before you do the refund? You would be out of pocket by at least that much if Paypal refunds him everything includinig the shipping cost. And 100% positive fb (for me at least) is worth $20
