I think sometimes we get so caught up in the details of how—how we will do something, where to buy, prices of this and that, when to buy. It’s not that those things don’t matter (later) it’s that over and over I see people making buying decisions based on the how and then having major regrets. The way to make a decision, really any decision, not just about bags, is ask yourself what do you really want—aside from all other considerations, even price. Aside from availability, aside from practicality, aside from what everyone else wants, aside from trends, aside from what a dumb decision your ____ thinks it would be, aside from the timing, aside from the frivolity. Just let yourself for a moment, with no constraints whatsoever, want what you actually want.

Maybe it isn’t even a Chanel, maybe it’s a Birkin. Maybe it’s a cardboard box and an assistant to carry it, I don’t know. But that is the place to start. Then at least you’ll know if you go on to make a purchase of something else, how far away you are from your true desire.

LOVE THIS!

yes you are right. its hard when prices are so high now and the economy is in the toilet to figure out what is important. to be honest, I'm looking at Kelly's now partially because I know value is better. but I don't know if I will like it so will look on fashionphile first. thank you for your wise words!

No, stop. Sit-stay. Lol! That’s my point. Don’t look anywhere. Don’t “figure out what is important.” Don’t do any looking whatsoever until you have FIRST decided (without looking) what it is that you actually want. Does that make sense?

Back away from the computer... close your eyes....

Now, imagine that the world is a big, generous place and anything you want is available any time you want and price is no object. You can afford everything and anything. You have unlimited resources. What do you want if that is the case? Do not decide what you want based on what is available at what price on Fashionfile. That is totally backward thinking. Decide what you want full stop, in a perfect abundant world where you can have anything you want.

Once you have that information, THEN step 2 is to set about your campaign to find the thing in the best place at the best price at the best time. But first things first.

Wow that’s so cool u have a motorbike and wear Hermes haha! I’m just a stay at home mom!

Ah thank you. If only I could ride horses to go with the Hermès theme but oh well, I guess, riding a bike suffices...?!

I secretly want my husband to stay at home because he takes better care of it than I do but he works in the ER so my dream will have to wait, he’s not going anywhere at the moment :amuse:

Which Hermes do u own? Eveylnne? I hear that’s so versatile!

I saw your post on the H forum and congrats on your Kelly. I was going to say it might be better if you skipped Chanel and go straight to H because you’re right, they’re now so close in price and Chanel quality isn’t like H but it looks like you got it all figured out nicely

yes I got a Kelly and she’s in the mail. Fingers crossed. I don’t know if fakes are the issue as well with h. I’ve been bitten too many times with Chanel.

eventually I may buy a Chanel but no need for it to be new. In fact I’m a bit over the new idea unless I get a birkin I guess. Prices have definitely gone down a lot.

Ok. I’ve been obsessing for about 3-5 yrs now over a jumbo double caviar ghw. But now I’m all confused. I was less than excited when I got a fake by accident (thinking it was real). So now I’m wondering if it’s just the hype that I want the jumbo double. I’m on the larger size (16) and about 5’5” so cross body is important to me. I think the jumbo is the only one that could fit.

I love my Gucci Marmont small camera bag and am debating just getting that in a larger size preloved But that could be money towards a Chanel lambskin jumbo preloved. I’m very confused.

I don’t see myself spending $7kand have a hard time swallowing$6k too. A Hermes evelyne is less than that brand new and I could probably push to a Kelly or birkin after a few years.

I also live in NorCal where black sweatpants is the standard uniform and people are not fancy at all. Plus my kids don’t go to super fancy schools so I’m a little bit at a loss for where to wear these bags.

I do like the Chanel 19 but a $5k everyday bag is a bit much. Plus it’s not classic and I worry about that.

help!! So tired of this chase!

It seems like you may be uncomfortable actually using the Chanel Jumbo even if you do buy it. Take this from someone who has done a lot of buying and selling...It’s best to actually think hard and long about how this bag will fit into your lifestyle before you spend thousands on it. Put together some outfits, write down scenarios in which you would carry the bag, etc...Consider you real life and personal style and not the fantasy life you would wear your bags in. I am not suggesting that you can’t wear your Chanel with leggings...just think about whether you would feel comfortable doing that. It can be an expensive lesson if the bag doesn’t work out for you. I love beautiful evening bags such as the mini lady dior. I have tried it on several times but will not purchase it because my lifestyle is just too casual for it and I know I wouldn’t get enough use out of it. I admire it on others and have convinced myself that I don’t need to own every beautiful thing I come across. Sometimes you just have to talk yourself out of making a decision that is not right for you.

I own a few flashy bags and live in an affluent area, but the bags I feel most comfortable using are the understated ones. I’m not the girl who wears my Chanel mini to take my kids to the dentist. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that) I am the girl who throws on my Loewe puzzle bag or my reissue to go pretty much anywhere without giving it much thought.

Again. I’m not trying to dissuade you from buying your dream bag...I’m just saying think it through. Only you really know what will work for your lifestyle. Hope this helps

This is so helpful and great that u know what NorCal is like! I live in Palo so it’s a mishmash but now with lockdown there isn’t going out at all!

I did end up going to nm but I’m not so fussed by a new Chanel as much. I’d rather get a used one and a preloved Hermes which is what I did so far. I got a Kelly from real real because I’m not dealing with the fake situation again!

I figure with a Kelly- I can pass it to my daughter and use it forever. I actually just sold my puzzle!

I might sell more of my bags too. I have an evora Lv and pandora which I love for travel but who knows when that will be now! I’m much more intrigued by H as their bags last forever.

Oh.. I don’t live in northern Cali. ( though I’ve visited a few times)I was trying to quote and reply to that part of the original post. Sorry about the confusion.

I plan on passing my bags down to my daughters as well. My 14 year old doesn’t understand why I think that one day she will want my used bags! Hahaha....I’m sure she’ll be happy when she gets my vintage bags and doesn’t have to spend her har earned money on some of these classics!
