Burberry Rain Boots vs. Other Waterproof Shoes

Hey there, congrats on your move! I own a pair of burberry rainboots, as well as a pair of northface rainboots. I would recommend burberry because the northface ones are very slippery. I was walking around school once and the floor was wet, and of course I didn't notice and slipped and fell on my butt in front of everyone. Needless to say, I won't ever wear those boots again! As for burberry, I've only had mine for about a year but I like them a lot so far. I have heard they last a long time! Be careful with sizing, they run small. I wear a size 7 and I ordered an 8. They fit pretty snugly, so my suggestion would be to order a size up.

I go to school in Boston, so I am there for the majority of the year. I just bought Hunter rainboots a couple of months ago because I had gone through 2 cheapo pairs. I was debating between Hunter & Burberry, but the Burberry tall ones would've been too tight for my calves. I know you could get an actual snowshoe like North Face, but I find rainboots are fine in the winter. I think snowshoes are hideous.

i have a pair of the white burberry rainboots and i love them although they are a bit tight in the calf and most people size up. i'm petite so while i like the look of hunters, they are too tall for my leg. the burberry rainboots are more comfortable than i expected. the sole is soft, so if you walk on uneven pavement, they'll wear down quickly.

boston is pretty cold in winter so i do admit i have a very unattractive snowshoe by north face. they are so warm and have good traction so i wear these in the horrid snow and slush. i put off buying snowshoes for years but finally got them after ruining several pairs of leather boots since i have to walk around the city a lot. i don't like the look of them but i don't think my rainboots would do it for the really awful days when it's a blizzard out there since they're a snug fit. i've heard you can double up on warm wool socks and that'll keep you plenty warm in rainboots if you size up!

do wait to buy until you get to boston. if you can't find something in store, there's a great selection online. good luck!!

I have a pair of boots made by Burberry. They aren't rainboots, per say, but they are good for bad weather. They are water, snow, slush, etc proof (I've worn them in bad weather when visiting the in-laws in Ontario, Canada) and extremely comfortable. Mine are a couple of seasons old, but they may have something similar now. I'm trying to get my floors cleaned, but I'm going to bookmark this thread & will come back & post a photo later.

Here are some pictures of one of them. The inside is furry, like an Ugg, so you don't have to wear socks to keep your feet warm. The wedge gives your foot support and the treads make them very stable on uneven & slippery surfaces.

I hate Photobucket!!! Every one of these was resized. Sorry that some of them are still huge.

You could go for Hunter boots. Theres a variety of colours and lengths for you to choose from and depending on where you go, they can range from $90-$200 or so?? You can wear them in the winter as well if you put in the fleece socks that they make (which are around $40? I think?) but the thing with wearing your Hunters or any rain boot in the winter is that the rubber MAY crack in NEGATIVE degree weather! So be careful!!

Also Tretorn makes some rubber boots that have like a fur lining on the inside! :) Hope I helped!

I have a question for those who own the Burberry rain boots and live in areas where it snows.

How do they hold up in the snow? I own a pair of the tall mega check ones and was planning to take them to Canada with me at the end of the year where I KNOW it will be snowing... but was told by a friend that this would be a baaad idea coz the cold and the salt would completely ruin them :(

Thoughts?

I sized up on mine so I will be able to wear at least one pair of super thick socks with them and I just realised that UGGS sell replacement insoles so I was thinking of ordering a pair of those to replace the Burberry insole with- therefore, cold shouldn't be a problem!

Have you looked into Aigle boots? They make rubber boots for equestrian riders-their Ecuyer boot is rubber but is made to look like leather. They're not cheap ($150?), but they're the most stylish rain boot I've seen so far. You can find them online from equestrian shops.

Here's a picture of Liv Tyler wearing them...

CrystalDreams - I assume you're not coming to Vancouver :P The salt ruins most boots-I'm always cleaning my leather boots so the salt doesn't damage them. But I think rubber would do much better against salt than leather boots. Lots of girls on campus wear Hunters-yeah they look dirty in the winter because of the slush and salt, but they would clean up fine. Whatever boots you have, just wipe them down at the end of the day so the salt doesn't build up.

Rubber rain boots are not exactly made for the snow especially in the cold Canadian weather. As I stated in the post above yours, you COULD wear your Hunters (or other rain boots) in the winter with fleece socks but you shouldn't wear them in negative degree weather because the rubber will indeed crack. Your best bet for the snow would be like..Sorel boots or something made for the winter :) Once the rubber cracks, you can't really do much :(

hmmm....

I will actually be in Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto, Seattle and LA =\

I realllly don't want to ruin my Burberry rain boots... on the other hand, I really want to wear them since my friend told me it'll likely be raining and such! (I'll be there from December to Jan).

I actually have a pair of Aigle riding boots- but being riding boots, they have minimal grip on them and unfortunately seeing as how they're about 10 years old now =\ they leak though I haven't really worn them that much...

Would hunters do better than the Burberry rain boots? I really don't want to buy another pair of rain boots but the last time I went to Canada, I totally ruined my leather boots AND they ended up leaking so I was extremely wet and cold...

Friend also recommended that maybe I should look into wearing UGGs while I'm there- but I don't own a pair and quite frankly I don't think I'm really into that style. I'm also concerned about them getting wet- I know that you can get a water repellent spray but if it's raining, I honestly don't think it would help all that much?

Thanks for the replies though and I really appreciate everyone's opinions on this!!

^ if you get black uggs and spray them any staining won't show and as long as you don't wear them in heavy rain or go sloshing through wet snow ( stick to sidewalks ) you should be fine in Vancouver. We don't get that much snow anyways and when we do it doesn't last.

Back to OP's post, I think you should get the Burberry rainboots. I think they are so cute and I'm planning on getting a pair this fall too.
