Your absolutely right. The structure of the bag isn't messed with. The whole side strap will eventually have to be taken off and discarded regardless. The quick fix will not keep you from having the side pieces replaced in the future.
What the original poster could do, and anyone else in the same situation, is get a temporary fix first, and then when they are ready to have the bag repaired, they could simply snip the entire piece off altogether so the strap, and any modifications made, are nowhere to be found.

Right? Strange. Let me explain my "strange math" to you. For big purchases, I save up. I didn't get a quote on the repair, but I've been reading that it can be well over $100. I still have previous commitments that I have to pay for (car insurance, gas, phone bill, etc.) so at this current moment in time, repairing my bag is at the bottom of the list. I am so, so, sorry that the fact I don't just have money to blow on things left and right puzzles you. I appreciate each purchase I make. I don't go around buying this, that and the other. How I run my finances shouldn't be questioned by anyone else but myself.
She’s right. My cinch strap got popped off and I came here for ideas to fix. How mean to critique her finances. Some of us do save
