Bring Back the Brooch!

Where have all the brooches gone? Am I the only one wearing this jewelry piece? I have some gold, SS and costume pieces that I love, but I get comments like "WOW, I haven't seen anyone wearing a PIN in a long time!" or, "What are you SO dressed UP for?"
Is fashion currently too casual to allow the brooch/pin on someone under 80? I plan on making a few scarves as well just to use with my small brooch collection....I'm sure I'll get some looks then, wearing a scarf AND brooch!
Anyone else deal with these comments?

I like very much brooch!
I saw daily many italian girls wearing brooches, especially on the scarves as you! So enjoy them!

I used to wear brooches ALL the time. I have really nice ones that always got compliments so I have no idea why I stopped wearing them. Thanks for posting, b/c now I'm gonna bring back the brooch to my wardrobe!

*I stopped getting those "Why are you so dressed up" comments after I would respond "Same reason I'm dressed up every other day... because I feel like it" :queen:

You're not alone. I love to wear brooches & do get comments. My mom loves when I wear them but my SO calls me an old lady. It's just a matter of taste.:winkiss:

I love brooches too!

Brooches can go from fun and simple to elegant and expensive. when I want something fun and simple I go to a bead/crystal store and normally they have some well made (handmade) brooches done by a teacher that gives bead/crystal classes. I've noticed that these tend to be the amber ones.

when I used to live in a city where winter coats were needed I had a permanent brooch attached to the lapel. so chic and takes the drab out of a winter coat!

I inherited some fancy/expensive brooches but can't really wear them on nice/expensive clothes since as someone mentioned above, the pinholes!

I'd love to see what other pfr's have collected and ask questions and talk about what makes them interesting and special to you.

I'm interested in your costume as well as fine jewelry pins and brooches! Including hair pins and hat pins and lapel and tie pins.

Do you get the brooch first and pick an outfit to go with it, or pick the outfit & choose a brooch to match?

I just recently got into brooches because my mom is culling her jewelry down and gave me one of hers. I never used think about brooches because I thought they were too fussy or "old", but I really like how they add an interesting element to a plain top. I've already gone and purchased a few more.

Here's the one I got from my mom: it's a discontinued T&Co sterling & yellow gold daisy with a rose gold ladybug.

Here's a new-to-me gold & coral brooch that was quite tarnished and cleaned up nicely.

And here are my new-to-me vintage sterling fishies. They have a yellow tint to them that is brighter on the back, so I wonder if they were gold-plated or washed at one time? Anyone know how to tell?

I collect several vintage costume jewelry designers - Dior, Schreiner, Sherman, among others - as well as really liking contemporary designers like Robert Sorrell, Iradj Moini and others. Because I prefer large pieces, most of these are in the 4-5 inch range, with some a bit smaller. I don't think anything is less than 2 inches but most are 3-6...

This is an ivy pin by Iradj Moini; I think it's close to 6 and a half inches long and it's got a lot of dimension to it.

Schreiner is one of my favourite designers. He used amazing combinations and cuts of stones and the pieces are very vibrant and often layered. He was known for reverse setting stones and using unfoiled crystal, which wasn't that common at the time.
