Excellent!!! Well done. Hopefully he reads it carefully.
Yay, good ol' Tiffany bashing. It's been a while since we've had a dedicated thread to mocking them. Well done!
I dont think this thread is really about Tiffany Bashing as it is about just wanting consumers to be aware, informed and to know that buying an engagement ring or any type of diamond jewelry is a serious investment and not to be taken lightly. Also, not to assume that a name brand guarantees the best, its all about knowledge and not so much expecting the best BUT demanding the best. I think that would be the general consensus for any name brand item.
Don't get me wrong...I am a total tiffany fanatic...but I want a really well cut diamond. I still plan on getting a tiff wb regardless of the brand of the e ring.
It's not mocking or bashing them. But I am surprised it took this long to get an accusation as such. This thread was simply posted for pointing out that you have to go in to any of these branded stores (really ANY jeweler) with eyes wide open and be aware that just because it's from there does not make it the perfect specimen. Go in with an education, and you will get what you want.Yay, good ol' Tiffany bashing. It's been a while since we've had a dedicated thread to mocking them. Well done!
I think what's more scary is not just the faith is the absolute lack of education their staff has and the misguided information they pass onto the consumer. I can't decide if that is truly ignorance or diabolical!
I don't have an issue if its a dream for someone to own it. But PLEASE educate yourself before you slap down the VISA on the counter!
Trained how? Trained like, to not know a damn thing about diamonds at all? Or trained to be kind of deliberately aloof and deceptive to make a sale?
OMG I KNOW! I groaned at that. Gotta make sure they have your money and you're almost out of return period first.
I would have to hope that SOMEONE in their hierarchy has been trained by GIA at some point on cut and on diamond quality in general. But I have yet to encounter anyone in any of my trips in. I am generally even terrified to allow them to CLEAN my ring because I am concerned they'll not treat it with the level of care that I do and I am not able to see into the area they take it to for cleaning.
I literally laughed out loud while reading it... then I started thinking about how Tiffany seemingly [read: *purposely*] dupes its disciples, err, I mean PATRONS! ...yeah, that's it, their patrons - and it made me a little nauseated. :sly:
Now, I'm sure Tiffany has some gorgeous stones... they do... somewhere they do... :cue crickets:
It really makes me sick that ppl think, "if it's from T&Co, it's the best..." Ummm, wait a minute - NO. That has been proven time and time again on TPF and PS. It simply means that you or your SO plunked down a lot of money for a name, with ZERO knowledge of what you were purchasing, trusting that they sell "only the best". I cannot BELIEVE the SAs will not give angles or show a freaking plot! I mean... wait a minute - WHAT??!!
Sadly, unless a shopper comes in with the proper education, knowing what they want (AND the determination to stand firm), I'm afraid they'd be completely taken advantage of... which, unfortunately, seems to be what T&Co depends on. It's sad that our society will just take their word for something of such importance and EXPENSE. Hell, I know men and women that do more research on running shoes than that! :what:
Fortunately for Tiffany, there are thousands of consumers who will happily "drink the blue-box Kool Aid" and assume their ring is awesome. I mean, it HAS to be... it is from TIFFANY, after all.
Disclaimer: Tiffany has some gorgeous settings, and I truly believe some are real works of art... There is nothing wrong with dreaming of owning a Tiffany ring. What I have a problem with is the misconception that every diamond Tiffany sells is of only the best quality, simply because Tiffany sold it.
This concludes my rant. *stepping softly off my soapbox*
Carry on.![]()
Not bashing or mocking?
I guess I'm a silly uneducated gal and my dream apparently outweighed my senses.
^I'm guessing this is really true regardless of the name on the jeweler's door.
^As someone who has bought three separate Tiffany engagement rings (upgraded/traded in) the bolded is the most offensive. Bolding the entirety seemed redundant since it was obviously meant to offend.
Most of these "facts" are true regardless of where an ignorant person is shopping; for jewelry or anything else. Breaking news: If you go shopping for something and know nothing about it, you might not get the best quality and/or price!
Its funny, I'm not even a huge "omg I love Tiffany!!" girl. I never talk about it in my real life and only have a few small diamond pieces (other than my engagement ring). I guess I'm just not sure why everyone is so focused on making Tiffany be the big bad wolf. It really just comes off as bitterness (here and in other forums as well).
Why is posting an article about one person's experience with their sales practices and having a discussion about why it's important to be educated before you go there and buy blind "bitterness"? That implies we're jealous of people who own Tiffany engagement rings and wish that we did as well, which is NOT the case for the vast majority of us who don't own a Tiffany engagement ring. I am NOT bitter about Tiffany anything. I am disturbed by their sales practices and the qualifications of many of the staffmembers, which again, doesn't have anything to do with bitterness.
You're assuming my intentions, and my intentions with this thread were not to bash or offend. They were to call attention to the sales practices of this and many other jewelers, brand or otherwise, and inform people that they need to be educated about diamonds before they go in to buy anything, because this store and many others do not have the customer's best interests at heart.
As you have surely noted, from at least one of my posts in this thread already, that say that there's nothing wrong with wanting it, it's important to go in educated, and I give a cheat sheet which I have also given time and time again, which you chose not to highlight, among many of my posts which are replies to other peoples posts. I have helped many people find great stones from Tiffanys inventory, I believe even yourself included, despite it being indicated, in those threads and personal experiences, that they don't stock the best cut stones, for whatever reason, and in many cases are less than forthcoming with the information on their stones, probably for that very reason.
