The only way to stop resellers is if people stop buying from them and not agree to pay double price for an item that can be bought for half the price at H. If there are more bags available at H, less people will turn to the resell market as well. I don't think anybody would pay double for something unless necessary.

We had problem here with resell market on train tickets. Some people bought up the train tickets and people were forced to buy from the resellers. The train company in the end had to personalise the train tickets to stop this. Of course this might not be a good solution for Hermes since a train ticket is only used once whereas a bag will be used for many years to come.

LV have been very clever with the haute maroquinarie bags, they put your name in it! Bingo, no resale market. They dress this up as the ultimate personalisation, it's lovely, but the added implications regarding reselling the bags, wasn't wasted on me. I know I'll be keeping my HM bags for a long time :smile1:

Hermes LOVES what is going on........it drives up the cache, market and prices. they are complicit all the way up

Absolutely. The whole thing makes a huge free addition to their BRAND VALUE.

I've never understood why Hermes doesn't put a serial number on each bag so that it can be traced. Coach used to do this many years ago. Seems to me that would solve a lot of their problems as they could figure out who was buying and reselling immediately.

They could not care less about that.
Their only issue is to increase the volume of sales in OTHER items than bags. That's all.

It is indeed about Brand value and the perception of scarcity. The more difficult the mountain the more people want to scale it - be it climbing it ourselves or hiring people to carry us up (because its easier or we physically unable to ourselves). We get there, we celebrate the attainment and then gripe about being ripped off by the carriers. Sure. at the end its business and all about sales and increasing revenues at the end of the day. The reseller conversation has been well visited throughout this forum.

Totally agree! :btdh:

It is quite possible Hermes are extremely happy with things the way they are, resellers and all, as Perlerare and the others mention. I don't think anything is going to change personally.
