Well my stone is branded but not from a store like hw or tiffs so I'm kind of in the middle. Normally I don't think brands are worth it-- brands like hw and tiffs-- but when it's a design that is perfect and well made it's not worth copying it elsewhere and the money is well spent.

I honestly think your friend needs to get over it. It's not her ring or her money nor is it any of her business where the ring came from. Sure you could get a bigger ring elsewhere but the style and Brand was important to you as a couple.

I am sorry I meant no offense. I think you misunderstood me! I wasnt saying that you were giving OP a hard time but that you seemed to think some of us were ..........oh well. :smile1:

That's ok, I may have misunderstood. Talking on here isn't the best way to communicate. :smile1:

I didn't feel that anyone was giving her a hard time, sorry if my post came across that way. I was a bit taken aback that her friend(s) were questioning their choice as a couple to purchase a branded ring. It seems that these type of issues come up a little too often for women with branded rings. I was just looking at the flip side of how ladies with non-branded rings would feel (meaning her friends, not any posters) if the tables were turned and, for example, OP questioned her friend for purchasing a "no-name" ring. I was just gabbing. :p

I hear ya--I know I type stream-of-conciousness style!!;)

Thanks everyone for the great discussion. Some of my friends seem to be quite negative on this matter or they just can't justify the fact on the money being spent on an e-ring that they feel could be easily replicated with a bigger stone. However, for my DF and I, it's not only about the name but also the assurance for the quality and craftsmanship (not to mention the wonderful customer service) since we are not jewelry experts. Although, the design is not something really unique and can be replicated, but I believe it would be somewhat of a challenge to reproduce this ring with the same type of craftsmanship that HW offers. We also looked into the jewelry district when we were ring shopping and some were really chunky looking and others looked good far away, but when you look closer, none of them compared to the HW.

What is most important is that my DF and I both love the ring. Sometimes, people just need to be happy for others instead of criticizing their choices. That's why I love this forum because I feel everyone here is truly happy for others and their beautiful jewelry. :flowers:

I grow tired of lucky ladies like yourself having to defend your decision to purchase a branded e-ring. It's a very personal choice and to each his own.

EXACTLY.

The opposite is also true of "non-branded" rings and pieces of jewellery.

Maria121, your ring is GORGEOUS!!!! Your friend's comments may have been out of line, but in the end, people are just people........we can't change who they are.

I really think many of us spend so much time worrying about whether we have the "right" ring....bigger, smaller, brand, no brand.....that we lose sight of what's fun.....like enjoying the ring!!!!!!

FWIW Ame, I consider your ring branded. Vatche and star 129

I think your friends are a tad bit jealous, heck I would be :p
Ugg.. I HATE the "they must be jealous" response. Let me tell you, I have probably in my younger years commented about how much better you could get unbranded. Was I jealous? Absolutely not. It's just how I was raised. I never had name brand things EVER. My first branded purse/jewelry was probably in my late 20's. To me better was, and still is, the objects qualities itself...not the stamp on it OR where i bought it. But that's just my opinion. As I've matured I've come to recognize the worth and value of other people's opinions. I would never make a comment like your friends did anymore, but thats because I realize to other people the NAME does factor in to the objects quality and value. To each their own.

Very true. While I've never worried about the branded part, I used to obsess over do I have the right diamond shape or the right setting. It took a F'd up jeweler destroying my ring, still without it 6 months later, to make me appreciate what I had. I won't ever question it again..when I get it back...if that ever happens.

Maria121..your ring is AMAZING. I never liked EC...ever....till I saw your ring. Breathtaking.

:laugh::laugh: I hate laughing but at this point since I know your pain, EVERY OUNCE OF IT, from dealing with the same nincompoop, I am at that point. I BCCd you this last time. You know there was no reply.

And I guess you are right! It is a branded ring. Just not a mainstream one!

Thanks for the comments everyone. :p

It is interesting to see the different views of people. I don't mind too much about what other people think because this was the ring my DF and I love and that it was best for us in many ways.

skphotoimages, Oh no...so sorry to hear about your ring. I hope you'll get it back soon.

My e-ring is from Tiffany and I've heard my fair share of really rude comments about how I could have gotten a bigger ring, better cut, better clarity, better colour etc etc at other jewellers.

But I grew up wanting something in the little blue box. Call me a sucker for marketing but that's just what I wanted. And my SO knowing me, saved hard and got me the ring of my dreams. While shopping for the ring, he had friends tell me he could have gotten more bang for his buck with other jewellers. But the point is he got me exactly what I wanted and not what outsiders think I should have. Bless him..

And because I wanted a platinum setting, he shopped around and realised that Tiffany was still the one to go for. Other jewellers were charging almost the same prices for e-rings set in platiunm. Besides, he read somewhere that Tiffany's platinum standards are so high that even the US government use it as a benchmark.

To me, I don't questioned your decision to buy unbranded rings, I defintely do not preech about the virtues of going branded. I don't impose my beliefs on you so why impose your beliefs on me?
I think it's just plain rude.

By all means, buy a branded ring if that's what you really want and can afford it. At the end of the day, it's all about what YOU WANT and not what others
think you should have.

Enjoy the ring :)

Thank you, carebearz. Well said. I feel exactly the same way. I don't understand why people would be making these comments when instead they should be happy for you because this is one of the most memorable and happiest moments of your life. ;)

When I got engaged, I knew nothing about e rings. DH and I went to one store (Tiffany) and I picked out 1 of 2 styles they had at the time- a Tiffany 6 prong solitaire (the other option available was the Lucinda).

I had no idea at the time that the style was so widely replicated (and almost perfectly replicated, I might add).

So, while I enjoy my ring, if I could back up 5 years knowing what I know now- I would make a different choice & buy a non-Tiffany ring. I would never judge others for buying a branded ring, however.

In a few years, for an anniversary, I do want to get it re-set to a more elaborate and unique setting. Something that is not so widely copied. I am thinking the Schlumberger setting, but we'll see what they have available when the time comes. They seem to be coming out with new settings every year.
