Hi all,

Has anyone purchased the Hobo bag (as pictured)? I noticed they released a smaller size and I'm intrigued but I really can't find any reviews or info anywhere.

I’ve seen irl, it’s beautiful, a little stiff but beautiful none the less. The thing is the price.... let’s take the new mini version for BVs wardrobe 2 collection for example: $5570 CAD! And that’s the mini version folks. Absolutely not worth that price point in a gazillion years, just get the mini Jodie (that’s much softer btw) and save your money.471BF255-B96F-4970-A783-8EBAF723DDD0.jpegEADF8E39-159F-421F-9A08-2BF7D12E5396.jpeg

I think it is worth the price. I love the unlined bags that are finished on the inside like the cabat but I like the bag to be soft.

Do you think it would soften up with use?

It could never soften because of the hard weaving, hard to explain unless you’ve felt it... all in all though, I find Bottega is rising their prices to unrealistic expectations. 97% of women would not spend that amount on this bag and that’s a fact. I personally would never spend anything over $4600 on a Bottega bag, as much as I love them. What’s next? $10,000? I might as well save and buy a hermes mini Kelly lol

Will post a comparison of my ‘old style/Tomas Maier hobo with the new style/Daniel Lee era hobo later this week:smile:
(I did not pay $6200 US dollars for the ‘larger’ sized hobo on BV’s website, I was fortunate to find someone who used it a few times and wanted to part with it at a more reasonable price point)

I totally agree with you.

As promised, some photos and my $.02 on old style/Tomas Maier (TM) hobo vs new style/Daniel Lee (DL) hobo:

Both styles IMO are quite different yet beautiful in their own right.

I can only imagine how painstakingly technical and timeconsuming it is to weave it by hand.
The handle is one woven piece compared to the old style hobo handle which is separate sewn pieces.

Yes, you are absolutely right, the leather throughout the new style DL hobo is not malleable as the old style TM hobo.

And this DL bag was used a few times by the previous owner. The weave is still ‘hard’ to the touch.
This bag is unlikely to soften over time.

Both bags are ‘hobo style’ with different aesthetics. Here is the interior of TM’s old style hobo lined with suede

And here is the interior of DL hobo which is unlined (you can literally see daylight;)) but I plan to buy a purse liner for the bag soon.

The DL hobo on the other hand sticks out’ more. But quite an elegant and beautiful bag that can be used whether one is dressed a little more formally or casually

Some other thoughts:
I do appreciate these differences in both hobos
Very grateful to have styles from both creative directors.

However I would not personally pay $6200 for the new style. It’s certainly beautiful but not ‘$6200 beautiful.’

(Note: I did not pay full retail for either bag as I was fortunate to find them both in excellent condition)

Thank you for reading! :flowers:

So I’m not typically really into the whole TM era but OMG I love your hobo bag... I actually might even try to find one on the resale market because it looks amazing! I like it much more than the new stiff one.

If you wanted a Veneta with a seamless handle, you may want to choose one of the newer, restyled ones post-2014, like this one:

Yes, I :heart:the TM era bags especially the hobos and Cabat!
I wholly appreciate the intrecciato weave (not everyone’s personal preference I know) and I wish I had fallen in love earlier lol.
(Hindsight is 20/20 yes?)

The leather from that era is so soft and luxurious in feel.

Definitely been looking for those post-2014 styles
