Bobby vs. Saddle?

I have the saddle bag in oblique and do not find it too small. I use it on a regular basis with a small wallet, reading glasses, small pouch with lip gloss, aspirin, etc. and keys. I am sure if you try to use a large wallet, you would find it difficult to use. I love the bag and constantly get compliments on the bag.

oh man - I still haven't taken the plunge! We just moved into a new place and I severely underestimated the amount of new furnishings we needed...I'm still planning to treat myself in the next month or two though to celebrate a big/exciting career move - definitely have been leaning towards the Bobby but man now you guys are bringing the Saddle back to my mind

Hello everyone... I'm back again, insufferably undecided on this topic still! I want to pull the trigger this month as my big Christmas present to myself (and then that's it, off to ban island from bags!!), and I'm head over heels in love with the cloud blue color, so it's either going to be the saddle in the cloud blue shiny goatskin, or the bobby in the cloud blue.

I think I'm leaning towards the Bobby, as I do want a bag that can fit more/is more practical, and I'm not looking for an evening or fancier bag but it's the leather that's still holding me back! I think it would be great to have a bag in goatskin so I could just be totally carefree with being out and about and getting caught in the rain. (I'm in a rainy climate now, so I want a bag I can actually use on rainy days). I've been reading the Bobby thread, and it sounds like some Bobby owners haven't problems getting the leather slightly wet, but when I called Dior to inquire about their return policy (I'm being very extra in my research lol) the lovely SA I spoke with (I'm really impressed by their customer service!) said the box calfskin leather definitely should not get wet. But then she still ultimately recommended the Bobby, and everyone who has it does seem to love it!

I guess what I'm trying to ask is...help!!!

If the Bobby leather gets wet, then it should be dried immediately. This is true for all leathers, really, but smooth leathers can swell more noticeably where water penetrates the surface.

I actually prefer the Saddle of the two bags. The Bobby is beautiful, but the Saddle is so unique and iconic. The goatskin is sublime!

Thanks so much for your input! I think you're right...and I would just love to have a goatskin bag in my collection. I think I'm going to order the Saddle so I can at least see how it looks on me, since it's such a unique shape. I also think I'm loving the Bobby more in the classic colors (the brown shades are divine) then the blue so maybe a different Bobby is in my 2021 future at some point (just as I say no more bags...my partners going to kill me  )

She came! This bag is so beautiful, it feels like a work of art! Sadly, even though I LOVE the goatskin, after trying it on and trying to put my things in, I don’t think the saddle is for me. It feels a little fancy/dressier for my lifestyle. I’m sad to send it back, but worried I just wouldn’t reach for it enough to justify the cost. I guess the Bobby bag is in my future now  but if anyone is considering the saddle the cloud blue color is *divine*!

Gorgeous bag and colour, but I’m just the same as you. I love the shape and the uniqueness, but I sold mine after 1 week because I couldn’t deal with the flap, inner space and general impracticality. And my lifestyle is casual and it felt a little too fashionista for me. I still love it and would perhaps in the future consider getting one as a collectors piece if a special “makes my heart flutter” version pops up. I love my Bobbies however as it is a practical bag that can be dressed up and down. Good luck!

The goatskin is beautiful! Sorry to hear that it didn't work out, although I will say that adding one of those fabric Dior straps to the bag can dress it down a lot.

If you want an even more casual Saddle, you may want to consider one of the embroidered canvas ones.

Thanks! I think I'm feeling the same way as @TwiggyM - when I tried it on the shape felt a little too fashionista for me, and my lifestyle is a bit more casual then it used to be (will I ever use my beautiful work clothes again!? sigh) so I just figured it would be a more occasional use piece, which wasn't what I was looking for atm. So all that's to say - I may decide to go back and add it to my collection later on! It may be a bag that I regret passing on...my fiancé actually really liked the shape of it which surprised me! Anyways...I'm clearly impatient and on the hunt for my perfect Dior bag...so now a Bobby is already en route to me :amuse:

Ok after months of indecision I think I finally have achieved purse peace lol!! I hunted down a camel Bobby (I decided while I loved the cloud blue color to death, I wouldn’t have gotten as much use out of it in this style) and I’m in LOVE! The Bobby is such a luxurious feeling bag and the medium is the perfect size for me! Finally found my perfect first Dior bag :)

I had the same dilemma! My heart instantly throbbed for the Bobby but then I realized that the satchel shape of the Bobby is present in every bag brand. The saddle is very iconic Dior and I wanted my first Dior bag to be like the Chanel timeless- that you won’t be able to find it in other brands. The price of the Bobby is just too steep for such a common shape.

I was also quite surprised as I expected the saddle to be small but it was actually roomy. I could store a passport holder, wallet, phone, and a small vanity kit inside.

Also, the availability of the new thin and adjustable Dior straps sold me to the saddle. I didn’t like the thicker and shorter strap but the thin one that’s adjustable looks and feels nicer. With the strap, the saddle is 1000usd (in my case, chf) more than the bobby though. But then again the strap, I could use for other bags so the cost per wear gets reduced.

The saddle looks more fashionable than the bobby. The bobby looks more utilitarian. I guess it would just really depend on your taste. But those were my deciding factors as to why I purchased the saddle in medium and black grained leather.

Jumping in to say that goatskin is my favorite bag leather ever. It does not scratch, it's so light, and it's water-resistant. I have a goat Balenciaga that looks brand new after five years. So I would get the saddle just to have this leather

This was also my consideration! I wanted goat grained leather for the durability and the bobby only had it in the one that had the side stitches (which I don’t like).

The Bobby is being released in grained calfskin very, very shortly. Stay tuned!
