You might want to try another at the store...I returned my first one but a subsequent attempt worked well and there is no smell at all now. It is a beautiful bag, worth the effort!

You are right it is a beautiful bag! It is a lovely combination of neutrals, classic without being boring.
My store could have gotten in a funky batch. It sounds like it is only some of them. To be fair, I kept mine in the dustbag and Coach shopping bag and did not try to air it out.
I had a Carrie that had a magic marker kind of chemical smell and it did lessen by about 90% by airing it out.
This odor was more unpleasant to me so I didn't want to even try.
It was funny though that it smelled like leather to my SA. (So she says...)

Fortunately, mine did not have any kind of odor! I love my boarskin borough! Like classicshopper said, it really is a beautiful bag & u should give it another try, if u really love it. Here's a random shot of mine....

I'm trying to remember the exact bag, but a few years ago there was a bad batch of bags that had a horrible odor....I think it was the Dove Sophia's. One lot of them smelled chemically and the lots afterwards were OK. And the SA's don't help when they pretend that it smells fine just so they can get/keep a sale. Coach won't know there is a problem until the bags get returned for the same reason. But if you love the bag, don't give up hope!

I had a SA (not my usual) who insisted that the bag smelled fine to her when I went in to return it. Another very young SA came over to me and whispered "don't give up, it smells AWFUL!" She found a new one for me, and it's all good now. I try to be kind to my SAs but when they are lying to your face, it is tough.

I agree, the SA does know the issue and should just go with it IMO. I have the mini in the barstripe which I love so I'm going to go with that for now. I'm anxious to see Stuart's designs for the Fall in real life! Has anyone seen the gorgeous tote in the woven leather in navy/white. Saw it yesterday and fell in love! What a tremendous bag!! It feels and looks very elevated in my opinion.

Yes I decided today that it had to go back. It truly killed me to do it but the odor was too much. It is probably due to the processing of the leather. I snot a picky person either. The fact that it had trimmer lines, was durable, had feet and how much I love the look of the bag design made this decision extremely difficult! I love the Coach brand so I know there will be more to come. In fact just today I saw the woven tote in navy/white that is just amazing, I wish you luck. Keep me posted.

Hi, I thought I would check back in to let you know that I, too, decided to take my Boarskin Borough back. I debated exchanging and trying another, as I do love the newer features, but I actually have two new Boroughs that I haven't even used yet, so I really don't need another at this point. Like you, I know there are other beautiful bags on the horizon, so I will wait and see what catches my eye next. I did see the woven navy/white tote just yesterday in person and thought it was fantastic! There is a slightly smaller version for about $100 less available in the navy/black combination (#30181, I believe), so I am considering one of those for the future. I wish you luck, as well, and thanks again for sharing your story, as it really helped me with my decision making.
